Aston Martin DB8

Aston Martin did not want anyone to think the successor to the DB7 had a V8 engine.
I have heard that, and also that they wanted there to be a HUGE gap between the DB7 and DB9 so it didn't appear that the car was an evolution, like DB5/5/6 was.Never heard of a 'DB8', though there were some (one?) prototype racers that never saw the track which were DB7s with V8s in them.

An interesting historical article, but unless my eyes deceive me, it does not say eight DB8 cars were built. Is it April 1st?
I just googled DB* and all i found was this...

one would imagine if there was actually an "official" DB8 and only 8 were ever made the whole aston fraternity would know of them and they would one of the rarest astons ever. yet......
I was told that they didnt call it a DB8 as it sounded like Deviate. which i find pretty funny and prefer that version myself. sounds like something i would have made up

There were a couple of DB7s that had V8 engines: One recently sold at auction. Another, built to compete at Le Mans but failed to qualify, is on display in France. Neither was known as a DB8.
I think the reasons of giving a clear distance from DB7, differentiating it from the XK8, and sounding similar to deviate, are all true for there being no DB8. The pre-production/concept V8V was known as the AMV8 Vantage (and was built in India).
I await pictures my friend, although I'm not holding my breath.
