So being over 45 and wanting to renew my International 'C' race licence -- I have to have a stress ECG every 2 years.

So off I trot to Avmed at Horley near Gatwick airport -- £371 later, I am pleased to have passed the stress ECG on a treadmill and also had the normal part of the annual MSA medical done as well. Not so pleased at the price though which together with the MSA renewal fee takes me to well over £500.

.... What did surprise me was that the doctor who tested me does a huge amount of commercial pilot medicals AND that none of the medicals routinely require him to undertake a stress ECG for airline pilots. The exception being +65 yr old pilots on simulators and anyone who has had issues passing a 'resting' ECG test.

Seems very odd to me that a commercial pilot is not routinely tested with a stress ECG when so many passengers lives are at risk. Either that or the Int'l 'C' race medical is too severe in the UK!

Well at least you won't have to have a medical next year if you get your application in early enough next November and you may even get away with the ecg for year three.

Blimey thats chunky Paul. I had mine done at the porsche performance centre last year and I'm sure it was cheaper than that.

Are you doing Dubai BTW?

Hi, Pete x 2 !

Well I wanted to do it at the Porsche Perf Ctr at Silverstone as that was where I went 2 yrs ago -- but they told me their first available appointment was at the end of Jan. Apparently their doctor or consultant was away on a sabbatical so nothing happening until then. I needed my 2013 liucence in my hands by 4th Jan for Dubai, so no go.

Frankly, I was not impressed with my experience 2 years ago and this time it was done much more professionally at Avmed nr Gatwick. Worth the trip, better equipment IMO and a doctor who was doing this stuff all the time for pilots, he just oozed competence. They also did the normal part of the medical so the cost of the stress ECG alone was £295 of it.

Yes, I am off to Dubai for the 24hr race - Jan 11/12, in the same car that I drove in Barcelona in September a Z4M Coupe - 6 cylinder with about 400 bhp (not one of the V8 beasts- I wish).

If you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket, call me as I think we now find ourselves a driver short - one of the guys has damaged his shoulder so has bailed out. Fancy a bit of winter sun?

Graham - yes there is lots of very serious machinery in that race - my guess is the budget for over half the field is comfortably in excess of £100k per car.

The conundrum for Britcar is simply this -- how do you persuade say 25 of those international teams to come to Silverstone in September -- crack that and we'll all enjoy a great B24 next time round.
