I am looking or a donor light unit.

I wish to dismantle it right down to it's base components.

This is not going to be put back on a car so I am looking for any smashed / broken / faulty units.

I'd "really" like to only pay postage and I would hope to think that there should be some broken ones out there somewhere that would ordinarily be binned.

It doesn't matter what colour / lens type it is.

If at all possible I'd like to try and get one with the central blade, again this part doesn't have to be in serviceable condition.

So if you have one or know of such an item, please let me know.

Interesting question GTDB7confused, me thinks that you have an idea, you're doing some R&D ..... do Aston Martin know you're developing a new product.... ?

I bet you ten to a penny, you're taking it apart, to see if you can spray the inside of the lens to turn the lens into a smoked lens, like the Range Rover etc.

If it is .... count me in, check my profile, any chance of darkening down my 9 is fair game ..... ! biggrin

If you know what you're doing I don't mind sponsoring you a second hand set of lens, that you could, "smoke", as long as I got them after you developed them wink

Maverick, That isn't what I needed one for, however it is certainly something I will check for you, as part of the strip down will entail removal of the entire lens from the rear casing.

I won't post my intentions for the strip down just yet but it is Aston related.

I have smoked DB7 lenses before also with great success and a friend has created his own full Red lenses, both these mods hide the hideous 70's looking orange portions well and fit the individual car's colour.

Smoking them is the easy part in fact, getting the lenses off in order to replace them and maintain a fully watertight seal is the difficult part. Once I have verified this can be done without concern I will gladly tint the insides of some lights for you.

Right now I am just testing out some R&D ideas, this used to be my job back in the 90's when I last earned a wage, if my ideas prove viable and can be done then I am thinking of getting my ex-employer to partner up on the idea so I can use the facilities at his factory to do the ongoing mods.

The main reason for a basket case light unit at this time is to detail how they are constructed, how they are sealed, how brittle the plastic is and what heat they can withstand etc...

Once done I don't mind sharing the info with anyone off here, as it's you guys that are helping me to obtain a specimen for the autopsy.

Remember that link I sent you via PM about engine noises.. I think you best go read it again.

It's been heavily "added to" today with some new findings.

"maintain a fully watertight seal"
