Have a friend who has the funds for either of the above which should he go for (mind made up he wants one or other) the other issue is do motor sport versions ie pikes peak etc hold value or gain as much value as road cars? From my experience (limited) race cars are pretty limited to max value as their market place is pretty small whereas the road cars have much more potential demand or am I over killing it?

I cannot call it either way but looming forward to when he lands one and have a shotgun ride. wink.

Very very rare car, only a handfull in the UK.

Distinguished by 16" wheels and slightly different rear boot spoiler. nerd

Good luck finding one Welshbeef!

I don't know how much the 405s are worth but the 205s are £100K nowadays.

Can't see the albeit rarer 405s approaching this figureconfused

Are we really talking about S16s in fact altogether a cheaper prospect ?

There was a road cart called the 405T16 but it bore no relation to the Dakar T16, it was a front engine 4 door car actually based on the 405. The only puka 405 T16s in existence are basically stretched versions of the 205T16 and are pure bred motor sport specials.

Genuine ex rally 205T16s seem to be worth a bit more than the road cars, especially if they have provenance.

Yep the T16 not S16's.
I've only ever seen a Group B 205 which was epic I can only imagine what a motor sport 405 T16 would be like (online pics looks better IMHO over the 205 that said the 205 does look mighty too).

Performance was 200bhp for the 205 and 4wd in a 800-900kg car!!! The 1.9GTi had what 120bhp and as we all know was super fast so one can only imagine how quick the T16 was/is

They never made a road/homologation version of the 405 did they?

And wasn't it just a 405 Coupe body on a 205 chassis?

The 205 T16 was homologated for group B but both road going and race ones change hands for £100k + and are rarer than rocking horse ste.

The 405 T16 that was built for Motorsport was never homologated and wasn't made available to customers.

The past couple of 205s I've seen have been nowhere near £100k.

Between £30-50k. They were both pretty immaculate looking road cars. Think both were LHD.

Actually the road going T16 weighed a fair bit more than that, after a proper rear bumper, a more solid clam shell and various other bits were added to civilise the car they actually ended up nearer the 1.4 ton mark! On the launch I read various journos found that it was'nt as quick as they were expecting.

The rally version on the other hand with its alloy roll cage and flimsy plastic panels, did weigh in at less than a ton and even the earliest cars left the factory with a healthy 340bhp making it seriously rapid.

This is my understanding of what he thinks /is willing to spend however £100k no chance.

I am sure I have seen a rhd 205 t16 advertised recently somewhere (octane or one of the classic car mags) thought it was circa 100k + though.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/classic_cars.php?ma...

Found two but they were not the ones I was thinking of

Haven't seen one at 30k for a long time but will watch this thread with interest

The grey one at £125k is the one I was thinking of. If someone has a source of such cars at £30k I'll become very friendly with my bank manager.
