Tipping chalet staff

What's the collective view on tipping levels for ski chalet staff?

What if, say, you've had a 4 day break and had really good, friendly service?

I've never been quite sure about this in the past, amounts have varied considerably I think!

How many staff, and how many guests?
Other than in the very high end companies, the staff get paid €100ish and live on their tips.

It's a little unusual in that the chalet company have 2 chalets, and 4 staff plus 2 owners, but due to it being the pre-Xmas week and only a few of us out here, they've only opened one of the chalets but all the staff have just mucked in with everything (cooking, cleaning, transport, etc). So we'd probably leave a communal tip for them all rather than a separate tip to each. Just contemplating where to pitch it.

Usually 15 to 20 of us, we do a communal pot for the tip. I seem to remember it being roughly 30/40 euro per person in our group. Have never felt let down by the service yet.

It depends how many are in your group, how good the service has been, how much you like your chalet staff (and possibly owners).

As someone has said the staff will have to live on their tips, so be kind...... In reality it means nothing to you but will mean a hell of a lot to them.

Mrs M reckons €20/30 per adult in the group is fair...... In our chalets I think the most we got from any single group (10 adults) was about €250, each couple gave €50.
