[EDITED] taillights beware!!!!!

The taillights for 997.1 have faulty circuit board. [EDITED] admitted it themselves. So if you buy them be sure at some point it will stop working for no apparent reason and your money has gone down the drain. Speaking from experience naturally.

Bit of a thread resurrection.

Whilst buying a sandwich today in Chapletown, Sheffield I saw a black 997 Turbo go past I think the reg was P777 xxx. I noticed it had what appeared to be aftermarket led rear lights on it. I thought they looked great and am toying with buying some for mine.

Anyone know the owner to ask which ones they are? I read mixed reviews on the Dectane lights giving error messages etc and at £500 a pair they aren't exactly cheap but they seem to be the best ones out there?

Thanks

I have the Dectanes, they're definitely the best OE looking ones out there, the Rottec's look too aftermarket IMO. Never had an issue with mine in the ~3 years I've owned them.

Hey Vron,

That was me! dectane LED's... had them on my 997 c2s and transferred them onto the 997tt.. Never had a problem with them and they do look pretty smart.

Were you in a porker ? I didn't see any around at lunch!

Ha no! I don't use mine for work.

I was running across from the sandwich shop to the car park ! Think I might get a set ordered then. Thanks.

I had the dectane rear LED's on my 997 Turbo and thought they looked pretty decent - more OEM than the Rottec ones imo. They very simple to fit 'plug and play' basically and although I heard of a few issues with the early production ones I think that was all sorted and never had a problem with mine.Dectane also do LED side repeaters as well which again I think look ok and not too 'blingy' but each to their own.

Thanks for the replies I've ordered a set.

Do the side repeaters fit the Turbo Ok as the front bumper is different to the Carrera ? I haven't been able to find drl's for the turbo bumper?

yes mate the opening for the side repeaters is the same again easy to fit..just make sure you twist the little rubber boot back on properly its this that keeps it watertight. There is a DRL for 997.1 Turbo I think Design 911 do them but not entirely sure. The only thing then is to change the front Fogs and small side lights to LED's as they look rather yellow compared to the whiteness of the xenon headlights. I did the side lights that was easy but the front fogs requires all sorts to put in resistors etc to stop warning lights so didnt bother but I saw a car with them done looked far better.

I seem to go against the majority here but I am really not keen on the LED lights. The silver turbo above looks much nicer in the first picture.
On mine they are complete Red units. I'm not sure if it would look better with the red/clear version (non-LED type) though confused

Arrived and fitted.

A little disappointed with the fit for £500. I have tried to adjust as best I can but there are limits so the lines aren't perfect. There are no rubber buffers in these unlike the originals and nowhere to swap the original buffers in either.

In summary do look nice (imo) and no error messages.

The photos don't come out well for the brake lights - an orange appearance but they are definitely red. The whole red led section lights for the lights on, then the 'C' shape lights when braking. They do reflect a LOT on the under surface of the rear wing though eek

Sorry pictures are upside down - they are the right way up on my phone and computer !

Hey Vron,

what parts don't fit well?

my rear lights appear to be spot on but did need a bit of manipulation to get them to follow the intended route, It was nearer the pointed corner as it goes towards the door where I had to push inwards as I slid them in, otherwise they popped out a bit.

Yes pointed bits stick out a bit they are pretty flush now - its the lines against the engine lid. May have to have another go in the light again see if they will adjust any more but I did spend a lot of time trying to get them balanced right.

Mine fit perfectly, certainly as good as the originals.

BTW, someone has 'badged up' your Turbo to an 'S'. boxedin

'S' on the V5? Tiptronic S maybe?

Porsche never made a 997.1 Turbo S.
