Morning All

I am just about to fit some new tyres to the rear wheels on the Evora.

I have sourced two brand new 255/35ZR19 96Y Pirelli P-Zeros.

The ones that are currently on the car have an 'MO' fitment (to which I understand means 'Mercedes Only') but the new ones I have got have an 'AO' fitment (Audi Only). So, what is the difference if any at all? Is it ok to swap between MO and AO fitments? Are there any advantages/disadvantages of doing this?

I asked the suppliers and they gave me the 'blank' look and said it won't make a difference. Surely there has to be some difference somewhere as otherwise they'd not be marked Mercedes or Audi only? rolleyes

Just to confirm, the tyre size and speed rating are exactly the same, it literally comes down to the MO / AO bit.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Cheers - PM

The last person who fitted AO tyres to an Evora took them off after 300 miles iirc, they were awful in comparison to the MO & MO1.

It'll be a manufacturer specific tyre compound and contruction variation. Without doing a side by side it's pretty much impossible to predict what the difference will be.

Chances are it wont be massive, but when you're talking about tyres for cars that have a high enough volume to permit a fair bit of variation from the manufacturer's base spec there are no guarantees.

Probably best to stick to the recommended items as the Evora is pretty sensitive to tyre choice, particularly given the above response!

Thanks for the replies people.. A classic case of go with what you know, I just had a niggling feeling that Pirelli obviously wouldn't create different MO & AO fitment tyres if there wasn't good reason.

After doing a bit of research into it (along with your answers) it appears that the MO (Mercedes Only) fitment tyres are designed specifically for Rear Wheel Drive Vehicles whereby the AO (Audi Only) fitment tyres are designed specifically for Front Wheel and Quattro driven vehicles. This is the rough basis of it anyway..

I've been quite familiar with the new tyre process now. I've had to replace about 5 in the last few months on mine.

Damned countrylanes seem to be throwing out nails and screws like anything the last 2 months... banghead

I feel your pain with the punctures, I've had two in the past week (fortunatly not on the Evora)!

As a matter of interest, have you tried any other tyres apart from the OE Pirelli ones? I'd be interested to know if there was much of a difference. Also, what sort of miles should one expect to get from a pair of rears, I'd guess that the ones I'm replacing have done about 5k of road driving!?!

Still love the car though so new boots are all part of the fun! thumbup

Hi, no, I've stuck with the OM ones. I did here that they had done a lot of research in selecting the tyres and that the car ran best with them, but as most... errr... all the driving I do is very tame, the OM tyres work fine for me. biggrin

Just pissed off at the amount of tyres needing to go through...

Unless you are getting the AO versions a lot cheaper, I'd stick with the MO1. You should pay circa £200 plus fitting for them. See link:

I've currently got some Yokohama's on and they are fine for road use and seem to wear better, haven't done any track with them.

Managed to get the MO1 pair that I was after, just need to find someone that can fit them without damaging the wheels or tyre pressure sensors..

Nearest dealer is 35/40 mins away and means taking two cars as can't fit the new tyres in the Evora, anyone know of anyone near Fleet in Hampshire that is capable?

With the Elise I normally just order tyres from Camskill and get them shipped straight to the fitter.

Etyres fitted 2 on my Evora ok - that has pressure sensors...

Plus they come to you and you can order the tyres via their website.

Hilton Tyres (plus Castle Lotus) are just 20 mins from me, so easier to use them as they offer a 10% discount for SELOC members on all the work they do...
