My S Type 3.0 on an 05 plate needs a service as it is fast approaching 50,000 on the clock. I bought it last January when it had just over 47,000 miles as a weekend wafter.

It has been faultless (as I would expect from a car bought from a Jag franchise dealer) but as its last service was at the end of May 2011 at 43,600 miles it is overdue and I'd like to have it serviced by mechanics who know what they're doing, with the intention of having the transmission oil changed within the next 12 months or so.

Can anyone recommend a reputable specialist in Bedfordshire or Milton Keynes. I have found E&E Services in Milton Keynes on the interweb but there are no reviews or comments about their abilities/reputation. There used to be a firm called D H Services (I think) in Luton. I'm also aware of Chiltern in Bovington near Hemel Hempstead but that's a bit of a drive.

Any tips would be most welcome. Would like to keep the car long-term as it ticks all the boxes.

I've been to e&e services. Found them to be reasonable in cost. I gave them the car for an appraisal when I bought my first xjr. Didn't charge me much for that and I had some work done with them. A good thing is that there is an mot place nearby so you can get your mot done and if it fails it can go straight back to e & e.allow an extra few quid though for cabs as they wouldn't collect me or drop me to the station.
However since then I have been going to Kevin at jagutek in Ely, Cambs as it is much more practical for me and their service is very very good and I can recommend them unreservedly

I took my XK to Dove House Motor Company in Rushden http://www.dovehousecars.com/

They are not a Jag specialist, but they sell and look after various Sports cars and is owned by a friend of mine. They used to look after my Porsches.

They charge £45/hour for non-Porsche and Tony, the workshop manager, is completely focussed on Customer service not upselling and they have Courtesy cars too

Hi,

So I use Chiltern Jaguar in Bovingdon, nr Hemel. I'm in Toddington, so not exactly close, but you do get a courtesy car (usually an old XJ6/8 so it means that dropping it off is easy. They are Jaguar specialists, have all the Jaguar specific computer gear, and mechanics that look reassuringly over the age of 16.

I don't know their hourly rate, think it is £60, but they do fixed priced servicing, I've been going there for a bout 10 years, ver happy with the service. A nice compromise between a main agent and a bloke in a railway arch !

They have done last minute repairs, wallet helping things, (welding the exhaust on my old XJ, rather than replacing it etc).

Re your case, my current 2003 XJ8 has the same gearbox as the S type, and they did an oil change for me, last year at 80k. They were happy for me to supply the oil & filter, I found it much cheaper than they could via Dave Roche at www.xk8-parts.com.

I can't remember the exact bill bit I think it was the cheapest I could get with people I trust to know what they are doing. It still isn't a cheap job, but worth doing.

Digging up an old topic here. I would also recommend E&E in Milton Keynes having used them recently. I am interested to hear of the place in Bovingdon, I will look them up. I also live in Toddington - perhaps I've seen you in the village?
