Looks like he was approaching the end of his contract, and expected the incoming PCC to renew it.

She preferred to offer the position more widely. He decided he didn't want to have to apply for it, so announced that he would quit at the end of his term.

He has now attempted to secure a six-month notice period and suspend the recruitment of his successor in the meantime. He claims that this is for the good of policing as a whole.

He has, in any event, failed, and so will leave at the end of his contract. The recruitment of his sucessor continues.

Sue Mountstevens looks so much like a female Malcolm Tucker I think it's worthy of mention.

Two egos leaching money from the tax payer - Not news.

I doubt she will last the year. Seems hopelessly out of her depth to me.

She was the independent candidate - I confess I didn't find her election statement especially inspiring.

But I'm not especially convinced by the CC, either.

There have been suggestions that Port was out of his depth as well.

According to the Beeb tonight, there are 11 official complaints against her already. Now, I don't know what the going rate for IPC's is, but that seems quite a lot.

Are they from people under scrutiny to see if they are actually performing their jobs ?

Banging a complaint/grievance in is usually the sign of someone trying to divert attention from themselves ?

Is it "usually" or is it "sometimes"?

The name 'Port' rings a bell - has this 'situation' already been mentioned in Private Eye a few issues ago? If the BBC item is current, then PE's predictions/comments were correct...

The lure of her £85,000 salary probably helps a bit.

She used to run a popular regional chain of bakeries locally. Her doughnuts were quite renowned, which is somewhat fitting.

Went bust in a big way. (not sure she was still a director then).

Basically this sums it up - very much a non-story in my eyes

It seems as though he threw his toys out of his pram because he wasn't given an extension to fixed term contract without going through an interview process to assess whether there are better candidates available.

She also wanted someone who could stay for more than a year which is the maximum contract Colin Port could sign up for (although I do not know why that is)

"Staff said the firm had been crushed by its debt burden."

Perfect experience for public sector management then.....
