18 months ago my eyes were perfect, they started going a bit and about 6 months ago I got glasses, just for reading. Now they have got worse again, struggling to read stuff on my phone and even computer. I'm sure this is all normal as you age (I'm 48) but I do have another condition which can spread to the eyes and do damage.
Before I waste the consultants time have others had their eyesight go down hill in this sort of time scale?

About 15 years ago, I went from being normal sighted to blurred vision with a few weeks - was diagnosed as panuveitis and vasculitis. It cleared up with steroid eye drops and nowadays only go to Moorfields once a year for a check-up.

I'd suggest you go to your doctor and ask if s/he could refer you to the eye clinic.

Are you struggling to read with your glasses on , or just having to wear them more to see?
The crystalline lens inside the eye changes shape to bring light from objects close to into focus (accommodation)unfortunately most people find somewhere between 40 and 50 that this becomes more difficult. Even if your glasses prescription does not change you will become more reliant on them as your eye looses it's ability to focus. However if you are finding it more difficult to see with your glasses I would suggest going to an optician (preferably the one you went to when you got your glasses as they will have previous records to compare against) rather than a doctor as many GP's have limited knowledge of eyes and equipment to examine them. As you might guess I am an optician!

No Jim I have chronic sarcoidosis. It's here to stay and currently in my lungs but expected to travel to other organs over time, the eyes being a likely candidate.
I'm very well all things considered although I will be on prednisilone for the rest of my life.
I had a flare up last year which the good doctor managed to get under control but as I say, I'm just wondering if this sort of deterioration in sight is par for the course.

I'm seeing the quite brilliant Dr Mukhajee in early Feb anyway so I'm sure I'll learn a bit more then!

In that case I'd say it probably is - as with my problem posted earlier, I then had lots of test to see if I had Sarcoidosis.

I'm an old bloke and suffer from the reduced flexibilty of the eyes lens more than most young uns on here. I get a new pair of specs every 2 years and thats it, at that point I can still see to drive using the old varifocals but reading starts to get hard work. Your rate of chnge seems to be more rapid than that so I wouldnt think it unreasonable to ask the doc to have a look.

Thanks for the replies.
Helen, I should have been clearer, with the glasses I'm okay, they are doing there job, it's the speed of decline without them that seems rapid.

The optician advised me to wear them just when reading as otherwise I'm okay but in just 6 months I'm struggling to do most stuff without them!
I'm sure it's normal progression but having had perfect eyesight 18 months ago it's just taken me by surprise.
