What age do you have to be to donate in the UK?

It's for a family member. I'm not able to as I have a heart condition. My son is only 16 (almost). Talking to doctors and trawling the Internet is no use.

My son has not been tested for compatability, I don't want him to be if he is not able to donate for 2 years which would probably be too late.

I don't want him thinking, "I could've saved him if I was older".

Anyone know?

No, not me. It's another member of our family. I have a heart condition so I'm not suitable to be a donor.

A quick google suggests no minimum age, best not to worry about it.

There have been childhood twin donations. From UK organ donation website: "In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, there is no minimum age limit specified within the Human Tissue Act 2004 for a person to be considered as a living [...] donor." I think under 18 it goes to an ethics committee. Strongly suggest you give them a call and talk it through - they'd like nothing more than to facilitate a needed transplant so I'm pretty sure they'll go all out to help your family.
