I feel a bit silly now, after smoking for 25 years, decided to give up, 10 days ago, thought
this was going to be really difficult, I have the odd occasion when I really want a cigarette.
Not because of a craving, just would be nice.

Why didn't I give up years ago?

I am almost looking for an excuse to have a cigarette, but I wont.

After about 8 years of smoking I went cold turkey having had my last fag on New Years Eve. Not had one since and really don't feel much different. I now understand why people say its purely habit as that's been the hardest thing to kick.

Because you have to be in the right frame of mind to succeed.

I gave up 2 1/2 years ago and haven't missed them once. Stupid as you say.

It's certainly the habit of doing something with your hands, at work it's never
been a problem, I still find myself thinking, I am missing something! Ah a cigarette,
does that feeling go too?

Tough on the motorist - no doubt as the tax take decreases on cigs they'll look to beat us up even more! Selfish of you really ...

Oh s**t never thought of that, will have a little chat with my lungs, see how they feel, and
maybe I can help again.

Good on you. When you get tempted just think of this thread.

It's as simple as that surely?

My wife is a health visitor and goes in to many houses where new born babies are surrounded by the haze of smoking parents. She came in last night and had to wash her clothes, coat and get a shower as it was so strong.

You're far better smoke free.

I know, now no smell, my oh gave up at the same time, must admit first motivation was
cost, so now just think of what to do with extra money.

That's another good motivating factor. If you plan something to look forward to together you'll enjoy working towards it.

Good luck.

The best one I can think of, I was sceptical about giving up because I enjoyed it, but had to
support the wife on this one.

Same here. I was on 20 a day when I quit. At the time I was working outdoors, busy all day, and simply decided to go to work without any one day.

Never missed them until my next trip to the pub at the end of the week. Pinched one from a friend, lit up, and nearly gagged at the ashtray-in-your-mouth taste. Haven't even thought about another one since.

Definitely more habit than addiction IMO.

I wonder how that works with the no smoking in the workplace legislation? If she can't now, then before long she will be able to refuse to visit these places (hopefully).
