Just spotted this in classifieds...

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

...and was wondering if anyone knows how many rhd examples were sold, wouldn't have thought it can be that many?

Can't have been many.

What a lot of car for the money. Brave pills required, but imagine how that thing goes from, say, 60 to 120!

Averages 21 mpg. Jimmy Hill! My SL 55 with 100bhp and 4 cylinders fewer returned 15 mpg on my way home this evening and that was with fairly scarce use of the accelerator.

An impressive lump of metal, and I would love one of these, just not sure if it's worth a 20k premium over what I paid for my n/a 600, which is why I was querying the rarity.

My n/a V12 600 is about the same, just averaged 22.7 on a 250 mile round trip...mainly motorway admittedly.

CL 65 AMG C215 is a FABULOUS car for its money.

I don't know how many were delivered in the UK in 2004/2005, but I can tell you that in France only 9 (nine) were sold new.

I guess the worldwide production must not exceed 500 cars. Only 194 were delivered in the US which is really nothing for this market.

Even today, it allows you to "blow into the wind" (as Clarkson said in the 2004 Top Gear review) 99% of the current cars, in the biggest comfort. 612 bhp and 1000 Nm (738 foot pound) of torque... a great MONSTER.

The esthetic is already established as a classic, this car looks absolutely fantastic. The C216 which appeared in 2007 is bigger and doesn't have the classy line of the C215.

For sure this car will worth much more money in several years. Buy it as long as you can ! Hand-built 6.0L V12 at AMG factory in Affalterbach, very few ever built, beautiful line, great interior, small amount of money... what else ?

Funny saw a LHD 57 plate one yesterday at my sons school. It was in an off white colour. Never understood why they never put this engine in say a GL or ML.

According to the howmanyleft website there are 24 CLS65AMG currently taxed in UK and 1 SORN. So that gives a pretty good indication of how rare these are.

But I think in the 24, they also count the C216 model which was not as rare as the C215, can you confirm this ?
I guess in the UK, the total of C215 CL 65 AMG shouldn't exceed 10 cars.

OK thank you.
Anyway, the C215 CL65 has been sold only at the end of 2003 (in Germany some were delivered on autumn), 2004 and 2005.
As far as I know, there was no 2006 production model.

I still can't find the exact number of CL 65 AMG C215 ever built, I thought 194 was the total for the US market but from certain sources, it seems that it is the world-wide production...

Have you tried contacting AMG directly or perhaps even through their UK and/or German Facebook pages?

Worth a try smile

Howmanyleft.co.uk isn't too helpful here, as it doesn't appear to distinguish between 215 and 216 models.

Hello Darren,
Thank you for your advice.
I already tried contacting AMG, unfortunately they didn't want to reveal the production numbers.
But from a strong source working at Mercedes France, I know for sure than only 9 (nine) were sold new in France in 2004/2005, that shows how rare this car is.

Unfortunately, even remapped, the CL 500 will get destroyed by a CL 65 wink

The 65 AMG is faster than a 997 Turbo 480 bhp on a rolling start

I know. When I sell my my E63 I'll probably move to a CL63...but the CL500 is a whole 30K ish cheaper.
