Audi Allroad proper off road tyres

My boss has just been given a 2004 A6 Allroad by an elderly relative who has handed in her licence. He has a daily driver so the Allroad will just be for pottering around the farm replacing a knackered Nissan X Trail. Tyre size is 225/55 R17.

Is it possible to fit some proper off road tyres? The current shoes are mostly road type. The vehicle will be doing some pretty horrible & steep tracks so the suspension will be at full height most of the time - the General Grabber AT2s on the X Trail were perfect for the job.

General Grabber don't do AT's in that size. Any suggestions?

Will 16s not fit over the discs? May be cheaper and easier to get some steel 16" wheels if they will.

If you can get some 16" rims on there, you'll have a much larger selection to choose from... Then you'll be into Freelander type sizing.

Don't think they are going to be nice, talk to a good independant tyre dealer.

These are all classed as "4x4" tyres but seem to be more road bias than AT! I would go with the other suggestions to drop the wheel size a little and find some decent AT's

I have these on my Frontera and they are pretty unstoppable bar the really boggy stuff!

According to Allroad FAQ 16" rims aren't meant to go on the car. UHPs will have to do.

The Falkens I posted are the only size proper AT's that will fit.

Cheers. Those Falkens should do the business. The higher profile won't scrape wheel arches, will they? The 10mm less width should help.

I will report them to the insurers as a modification just to be safe as they aren't standard sized tyres.

The e-tyres tyre calculator says the radius is only 1.62% more than the 225/55/17's it has on now so unless they are already jammed against the wheel arches I'm sure they won't touch, even at full compression.

MASSIVE tjread resurrection of 10 years! Lol! Looking at an Allroad and need a similar type tire for similar duties.

I wondered if you went with the Falken in the end, which Falken it was (link expired unsurprisingly!) and if not if 10years down the line there are any other option for an AT type tyre for an Allroad?

Being on my third Allroad, and now having a V8, I’m fitting decent tyres for the winter. 16s will fit, but only if you use the original spare that comes with it. Buy four of those, then look at off-road tyres. I need two more wheels then that’s the plan. FYI anyone running an Allroad with factory 18s needs to be aware that if the front drops, the car is not drivable. Unlike lower spec cars with 17s, the arches sit directly on the tyres so no steering is possible. This is why I had to buy a second collapsible spare just for me to get it recovered.
