Seeing as we all love a shed here on PH and Following on from my previous thread.

I started sharing a car with Clare in 2008, i have needed my own beater to run to work, and general run about, it was also a great opportunity to scratch some itches, and experiment with some free motoring so to speak

I must stress that there are a few out of "shed" territory, however the most spent on a car in this thread was £2200.

Mk4 Golf GTI 20vt, This was ran alongside our E46 M3, and ironically this is the most expensive car of the thread, which seems crazy as it was also one of the most woeful, it was so slow and strangled in standard form it felt terrible, a remap woke it up a little, however it just wasn't that great, i never kept it long

BMW E36 328I Sport Auto, An auction purchase to replace the above Golf, a lucky find if I'm honest, local car with plenty of history, two owners from new and totally 100% standard, a lovely car that today i would still get what i paid for it in 2008. I sold this to part fund Clare's engagement ring

VW Golf VR6, If you have read my other thread you will recognise this car, after i sold it on it was shifted on again, and into the wrong hands unfortunately, it was crashed, partly repaired and left on a main road without road tax, when it was clamped by the DVLA. the owner had no idea what to do, i contacted him, made him an offer on the car, and paid the fee to release the clamp. I did not want to see the car lifted as i had spent a lot of time sourcing some very rare parts for the car, however once i had it home, it was obvious that the car was beyond economical repair, so i broke it up

Audi A3 TDi, A hatred of Audis spawned from this car, i was offered it as i broke up the VR6 from a mate, he owned it a few years prior and a mates brother had bought it off him, but was looking to sell up, seemed a genuine car, drove perfect, and i was genuinely happy with the car, except it kept steaming up. Cue two days replacing the heater matrix. I had never done such a job, broke many parts. Never again

Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000, How this came about was genius, i had mentioned to a friend about the Audi above, and the hassle i had with the matrix, within an hour i had a chap on the phone asking if id like to swap my A3 for it, turns out the chap with the Subaru and my friend were also mates, and he had been moaning that he couldn't afford to insure his bike and the Subaru, said mate mentions the A3 and the rest is history. We did the deal in the pissing rain, i gets all the paperwork, 1 previous owner with full Subaru history, inc a new short engine at Subaru. All was great until the following day when the rain stopped, it looked ok in the pics, but had been painted by stevie wonder, awful awful respray. I moved it on quickly as insurance for this and the M3 was nearly £4000 a year, as clare was only 21 at the time

Mk4 Golf GT TDi 110bhp

This was a welcome car, cheap to run and at the time cheap to buy, i needed something like this after the insurance costs of the Subaru and M3. It needed some TLC, but i got almost everything from a car that was at my work from the scrappage scheme, i ran this for a few months and sold it before heading to NYC for christmas. The chap replaced his flood damaged MG ZR with it from memory.

BMW E36 323i Sport tourer

Out of all my shed buys, this is one i regret selling most, however i was skint at the time so needs must. I got this off my mate, and i never knew how rare they were. It had a few nice bits fitted, 328i Exhaust, eibach springs, M3 Grille and splitter, i really wish i kept this, as i would be convering it to an M3 as we speak if i did. Am i an idiot, yes

Seat Ibiza Cupra Sport 16v

This was me trying to relive my youth, badly, i had an 8v one of these when i was 18, and for some unknown reason i thought buying another would be a great idea, sadly it wasn't, turned out to have LOTS of faults, and i quickly lost interest in the car. A good friend bought it from me, and it turned out to be one of the cleanest mk2 Ibizas we had seen in a good while, he spent a small fortune on it, but wrote it off on a back road unfortunately

VW Golf VR6

I bought this off a mate with no mot or tax, he had used it as his daily for a few years but couldn't be bothered retesting it, from memory it needed a wheel bearing and a rear calliper, low mileage car too with decent bodywork, it needed a pair of wings however. i used it for a few months but sold it to fund the repairs on the 335d i had just bought.

VW Bora V5

This was what i got to use when i sold my Transporter when we first moved, for £500 it was great. I fitted the 17" wheels as the 15" ones it came on were less than flattering. It served a purpose and it sounded not bad too, terrible fuel economy for the lack of performance

Another Golf VR6

Too good to miss this one, bought from the same owner since 1997, with a suspect head gasket failure. I wasn't entirely convinced and told the lady that on the phone,
but her mechanic had diagnosed it as such and she was going with his opinion and huge repair estimate. I collected it, started on the button and drove on to the trailer, got it home and it overheated in the drive. Thermostat stuck shut, and the waterless was a warped housing, repaired for peanuts really. I felt sort for the previous owner as she cried when i took the car away. Anyways my plans on a return to mint resto were scuppered by Clare, so i sold it, as the small areas that needed work were annoying me

BMW E46 330d Touring

This was a friends car, when he bought it i cursed his as i was wanting it too, however after a few months he got fed up and offered it to me. Not a lot to say about this TBH, utterly reliable, never missed a beat, great on fuel, it done everything that a 330d should do. It wasn't the best cosmetically. Later found out that the full fuel system had been replaced in the past, including all 6 injectors, fuel pumps and tank at BMW due to being filled with petrol. My mate from along the street pestered me to buy it, and in a moment of madness i told him to take it. He still has it almost a year later

Audi A4 1.9 TDi Avant

£220 bought this, cheap as chips, I needed a car quick when the 330d went and this popped up on Gumtree. it went through an MOT needing a track rod end and a clip on the brake caliper. Best £220 i have ever spent, it was road legal for less than £450, utter bargain. I seen pound signs in this, and sold it on for a profit shortly after, it helped me buy my next car if I'm being honest.

Mercedes W211 E280 CDi 2005 55

I got this from my mate, it was an ex private hire car, used predominantly for executive hires to oil companies, however it was used as a taxi too. 230k miles, with FULL MBSH, and £24k of receipts for work carried out at Mercedes Benz over the 4 years he owned it. There had been no expense spared with the car. It was showing early signs of torque convertor failure again and as it was due for replacement he cut his losses and bought a newer one. Obscene VFM, it drove like a 40k car, not a squeak or rattle. I needed something to pull my trailer thug so it was never a keeper, i saved my mate the hassle of selling on E bay, and we split the profit over what i paid for it

Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5 ES

I was asked by a friend if i knew anyone that might be interested in this Discovery, as he had been asked t sell it for someone, i fell in love as soon as i seen it, as it would be ideal for pulling the trailer. It needed some work to MOT, nothing major, however it wasn't without its all to frequent faults, Injector loom, lack of grunt, leaky sunroofs etc, at one point it was fix one then something else would happen, so i decided to get rid, as i had bought the X5 it had a tow bar and was more than capable. Still a fantastic vehicle, i think i will have another at some point

Hard at work shifting the Range Rover that refuses to run

Subaru Impreza Turbo2000 Wagon

This again was a peach of a find for the money, same owner for the past 11 years, FSH with a recent clutch and timing belt. Truth be told i should have kept this car, but i couldn't be bothered replacing the failing centre differential and Clare hated looking at it, so a mate now has it. Best fun i have had on 4 wheels for £800

Golf GTI Colour Concept

Bought this on a whim, i didn't particularly like it so i robbed the seats out of it and sold it with a standard interior

Golf GTI 20th Anniversary

Here we are at my current shed, i bought it unseen off Ebay, it arrived in a pretty sorry state, however its virtually rust free so i have started a mini rest/upgrade on it, i have a separate thread running for the car currently

I hope i haven't bored anyone too much, and thanks for taking some time to look at my sheds

I've never seen anyone with such a big itch for Golfs

top shedding for taking unwanted cars from mates rather than see them scrapped

Bloody hell that's a ridiculous amount of cars (mostly fairly similar too). Think I've had one car in the time you've eaten your way through that lot smile

Was thinking about trying to find a half decent Impreza turbo 2000 though as the extra practicality and 4WD over my current FTO would be very useful sometimes.

The Golf thing i admit has been with me since i was a young spotty teenager, when i was at school all i wanted was a Golf VR6, not exactly aspirational i know, it turns out i have had around a dozen of the things now.

I get fed up easily, plain and simple, i like to shift things on whilst they are working, before anything goes wrong, and ends up costing me money. Hand on heart i have worked my way through that lot of cars not bursting the £2200 i initially spent on the Mk4.

I see it as varied, fun, free motoring and so far i have been lucky.

I buy VAG cars as they are what i know, at this end of the scale i have found its best sticking to what i know, as it will potentially save me money.

On the whole i like older VAG cars, the newer stuff, doesn't really do much for me

My favourite type of thread, like to read through car histories. Good work, some of those sounded like very good deals.

Thank you, these are just some of the cars that have passed through my hands worth a mention on here, there have been more fixer uppers, however I never bothered with photos for these.

Looking at the thread again, there is only 4 cars that cost more than a £1000. The Golf 20vt, Audi A3, Mercedes and the Land Rover. The only two to break £2000 were the Golf and Merc (just), so I agree that many were great deals, most were between £4-700 purchases. I wish I could still find bargains like I used to
