What vettes/cars have been modified in the UK that have not lived up to their expectations?
Power readings,times or engine failure.

Might be worth passing this around a few more forums?

I think mine comes into this category, engine contracted to produce 630+hp(actual dyno tested 515hp),and over 49 months one total rebuild after failure and a number of top end rebuilds due to head gasket failure....argh theres only so much patience a person has got.

Just to give some positive feedback for a company, I ordered an engine from the Engine Factory via Corvette Kingdom. Admitedly it's only got 430hp but for 4400 USD that's not bad. Spend another 2000 USD on a Vortech supercharger and you'd get pretty serious power for not too large an outlay of cash. Their website is www.enginefactory.com
I hope those of you having problems get them sorted soon.

A few of us have been through the mill with late model EFi Mustangs & superchargers, most of us carry out our own work & it really highlights the difficulty in getting it right this side of the pond with no expert help.

We have all learnt the hard way, blown motors, disappointing results, melted pistons, we have seen it all! My car has been on 3 dyno's & each time it has been a pointless exercise, I purchased a Wideband AFR meter & using a piggy back ECU, tune it myself now.

Any blown car needs to run a minimum air-fuel ratio under boost of 12.5-1, any leaner and there is a danger of hurting the motor, I run mine at a nice rich 11.5-1. This costs some power but keeps the thing reliable.

I do not think the level of expertise is available in the UK to deal with these cars and you absolutely must talk to people in the States.

I hope ZR1427 gets a satisfactory resolution to his problems.

Imported Carroll's Stage 1 supercharger kit. Fitted in Woking. Worked perfectly for 10,000 miles, then bearing in bracket failed (but my own fault for over tightening the ribbed belt).

This kit worked perfectly from day 1. Good performance - it trashed the tranny.

I go along with Mr Kippers, I do all the work on my car myself, having been disappointed by professionals a few times. Being a degree-qualified aeronautical engineer, I know a few things about engines and fuel control systems, am not afraid to have a go myself. As Clint Eastwood said ´a good man knows his limitations´and as long as you stay within them and follow the Service Manual rigorously you can´t go too far wrong.

I decided that there´s no point throwing buckets of money at my vette, rather optimise what you´ve got. Much of what I have learned about the ZR-1 has been gained through research on the web and by talking to people who know their stuff. I recommend that anyone else with a vette does the same.

I hope ZR1427 gets his car sorted soon, if there´s any way that I can assist, I´d be more than happy to help out.

I think one of the positive things to come from these posts so far are that there are others that have been in a similar situation and have not been afraid to "Have a go themselves" ,the replies have been very encouraging and i feel with others around, advice and the net we could do a more capable job than your so called "Specialist",thanks.

Tony,
Corvette Kingdom are fitting the same engine for me. If you have fitted the Vortech supercharger I would be interested in hearing about it. If you have time can you drop me a note at graeme@planninganalysis.com.

Cheers
