Picked this up today with my Dad. Rochdale Olympic thats been sat in a barn for 20 years. Requires a full on restoration that me and Dad will be starting soon.
First things first is to put it back togther and see whats missing then the body will be going off for painting while we sort the engine. Plan is for a 1700cc or as big as we can go with an AX block pre x-flow, big valve head, twin weber carbs that sort of thing.

Super light, two people can lift the rear. No engine and box fitted at the mo so the front was able to be picked up too. Four of us pushed it up the ramps into the back of the Luton van with ease. Two of us rolled it out here easily enough.

It's Morris Minor/Riley 1.5 front suspension. Minor rear axle but with coil rather than leaf springs. Engine and gearbox is ford mk1 Cortina

That has the potential to be such a beautiful car. I am very very envious. I look forward to seeing progress.

A late friend of mine had one of these for years and years.
Eventually sold it and I have a feeling it was bumped after.
See yours has some repair.
That one doesn't happen to have been green?
From the NE of England?

Not a repair just where someone started to sand down past the numerous layers of paint. Blue, white, red and beige!
This car seems to have lived all its life in the SW

Hi Skyedriver,

Thanks for the info on the Green Rochdale Olympic.

The damaged car was sold about 1994 to a man in London who was going to rebuild it. We then lost contact with the car till it appeared on a web site called “Classics left to die” in 2005 in a builders yard in Herefordshire. (photo attached) The car has been rescued and is now in Wrexham, North Wales been restored.

I run the Rochdale Olympic History Archives for the rochdale-owners-club.co.uk if anyone has any photographs or knowledge of Olympics
from the 1960,s – 1970,s specially any Racing history, please send me a a PM/e-mail from my profile TSP3.

Regards

Tony

Hi Russell Mc,

Rochdale Olympics were supplied new with a self-coloured Gel-Coat so as not to need spraying.
The Gel-Coats were Red, British Racing Green, Ivory and Light Blue, your car was supplied new sprayed Vellum by the factory. From your photos can you please tell me if the Gel-Coat is Light Blue, then sprayed a White undercoat, then sprayed Vellum topcoat. Can you please tell me which panels are Red and are they sprayed or Red Gel-Coat. (ie is the rear hatch Red Gel-Coat as I believe this hatch may have been added at a later date)

Regards

Tony

Car seems to have white gelcoat. Test fitted Weber carbs on the weekend to see where we're going to have to cut the body. Most of the loom removed too at the same time

not normally on this forum, i'm normally on the TVR forum but was curious!

saw a rochdale olympic phase2R for sale a little while back, think it was two tone blue over silver, it was for sale on a site called swapz but unfortunately the advert is a little old now and has disappeared! sorry i know its probably too little too late but though it might be of interest to you. The sell described it as one of only six built.

i managed to pick up some of the advert but no pics sorry:

Rochdale Olympic Phase 2R

Value: 1 penny
Location:
South Central England - rotherham

Swap description:

This is a extremely rare Rochdale Olympic Phase 2R . This is the only Olympic that you will find that is listed on the V5 as a Phase 2R. They only built 150 Rochdale Olympic Phase 2’s and only 6 Phase 2R’s but this is the only one that is registered as a Phase 2R.

This is one of the last if not the last to be produced due to its lack of colour in its base coat . I have a copy of the original registration documents of donor car that I sourced from the archives at Hull . Loads of dating evidence emails and letters of authentication .

The car had been in the back of a garage for around the last forty years but its previous owner never managed to complete the car or get it registered .

I bought the car in 2009and after 18 months with a lot of help I managed to get the car registered on a age related plate (tax free) I Mot the car for the fist time in 2010 to get the car registered . The car only completed 25 miles last year and the V5 says no previous owners .

Its extremely rare to find a Rochdale Olympic but even rarer to find a Rochdale Olympic Phase 2R. These cars are been bought and modified and its getting almost impossible to find one that has not been upgraded or molested . This car has been left as its original mark .

I AM OPEN TO ALL SWAPZ

Potential project for anyone in Thailand; a Rochdale with history;

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Challenges include whether it is actually for sale, if it can ever be road registered, if there is anything left of the chassis.
