I saw this article today http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI... about the Vipers returning to Le Man and it reminded me of the 993 GT2 V Viper battles of years gone by.

I got me thinking, why don't we see the 997 GT2 racing? Is it because of rules, weight, factory support?

Thanks smile

Wouldn't that be the 997 RSR as opposed to 997 R?

Nope the RSR is the GT3. I'm on about the rwd turbo model.

The GT3 RSR is the homologation special for GT racing. The GT2 is a fast road car and would be crippled by the restrictor rules - and more than likely too thirsty to be competitive over a long race.

The old battles between Viper vs Porsche GT2 vs Lister Storm etc was back when you had GT1 and then GT2.

GT2 basically then became GT1 with the new Porsche 996/997 GT R,RS,RSR becoming a GT2.

Absolutely love the Porshce 993 GT2
