Engine failures......arf arf.
Never mind, back to the car. I am thinking the rumoured Boxster Coupe Club Sport could be a terrific car. The mags reckon the coupe will be cheaper than the drop top. A Club Sport with the following would tempt me very much:
280 BHP new Boxster S engine.
Light weight seats, manually adjustable, no heating, Nomex covered with Porsche script on the head rests! Plus body coloured plastic backs, naturally. Oh yes, I want harness holes.
Optional half cage, harnesses. Body coloured, oh yes.
Retain air-con and some sort of stereo. Daft to leave these out.
No sunroof.
Body coloured wheels with polished rims, possibly 19" 997S items, but ideally the lightest wheels Porsche can get.
Sticky rubber, a la GT3 RS.
No ceramic brakes. I would track mine and I couldn't afford to replace the things all the time.
More focussed suspension. Think M030 on the 968 CS.
A GT3 RS type steering wheel and gear knob. Who cares if the suede-like finish doesn't wear well?
Easy on the body coloured interior finish, a little, but not too bold.
A loud exhaust, switchable volume if possible.
Club Sport graphics along the bottom of the doors, just like a 968 CS.
A free driving tuition course at the Ring for every buyer.
Oh yes, and some funky RS-type colours. I'd like Maritime Blue, but I suspect Speed Yellow and even Rubystone might be popular. Even the minty green.
If there is the money in the budget (aren't Porsche minted?) let's shed weight. Plastic boot and bonnet lids would be cool, or carbon. I wouldn't want a plastic rear window though, it would get scratched.
So, who wants a cheaper 911 look-a-like? Me. Doesn't the above car tempt anyone? It could be done for 40 grand. It would be very desirable.....with the X-factor / "want one" thing going on.
It would make a 997 look a bit over-priced. It would have 280 BHP and less than 1300 kg to haul around. With the correct sticky boots, good brakes and M030-a-like suspension it would be a match for the 964/993 RS on the track. But it would would brand new with a 2 year warranty and huge service intervals (but I'd service mine more regularly than 18,000 miles).
Anyone else thinking of doing a letter of intention for a Boxster Coupe Club Sport?
Edited for spelling.

Already put my letter of intent in ! it sounds like it is definatley going to happen it's just a question of when, the Club Sport is rumered to be having a 3.4 6 cyl oposed to the 3.2 S engine, produceing 310BHP !!
Which makes it an even better prospect and a certain future classic.
Car'nt Wait.....

Can I ask where you got this information from?! I really hope that spec is accurate, but it would be getting very close to 997 levels of performance for not as much dosh, so I would be surprised if the 3.4 engine did make an appearance. I would love one though.

Autocar 12 Aug 03 page 11 : quote Among the proposals before Porsche chairman Wendelin Wiedeking is a stripped-out Club Sport model running a powered-up version of Porsche's classic flat six engine.
This is to be a 3.4 litre unit with around 310 BHP, with an optional new six-speed double-clutch manual gearbox similar to the Audi DSG system.
My local dealer reckons it will appear late 05 early 06.

I tried to stick up the pictures I see around / get passed.

I popped down to my local OPC today and I have filled in an order form for a Boxster Coupe Club Sport with "should it ever be made" written on the form. The salesman was no wiser than anyone on this forum in terms of if it will be built or not. However, the salesman himself has ordered a Boxster Coupe. They are being paid too much! Only kidding.
