Dash away for veneer, any jobs while It's out?
Discussion
While the dash is away for new veneer and I have this big gaping hole in front of me are there any just-in-case jobs which are worth doing?
I'm looking to replace the clock bulbs with LEDs but that's all I can think of.
Wasn't there a thread somewhere about mounting the rev counter and speedo in some drainpipe for quick access. I might have a read of that if I can find it

Used DIN Rail to mount my instruments instead of the TVR glued brackets. Its just the right size and I welded them in position on the back 2 per clock before re-veneering.

Who is re-veneering your dashboard? Ihe London Carriage Craft Co. say that they can't re-veneer a dash with any brackets still attached to the back. Like you I have permanently fixed all my brackets in place.G.M
Ha ha, well I'm glad that got you all thinking.
I read where someone had goy a piece of pipe just larger than the diameter of the rev counter and speedo.
Attached it somehow - silicone sealant perhaps - to the back of the dash.
Then wrapped the clocks in foam to make them grippy and a tight fit, then they could be slid into the dash from the front.
This would allow them to be removed to replace bulbs and twisted to line up correctly.
I have no plan yet as to who will do the veneering. I've used TVR MADS in the past and it looked good, but also found a company called Classical Dash at the Classic Car Show at the NEC last year. They quote from £225 for a Griff but their website has no veneer colours so I don't know what the hell to pick.
I need to get my finger out because they have a 4 week turn around time.
I'm curious about how this DIN rail works Craig. Care to enlighten me?

Did you tire of the colour coordinated look then?
There was a poster on here, Sunwharf I think, who was looking at a really neat solution for mounting the instruments. But haven't heard from him for some time might be worthwhile contacting him.
With the dash out I'd take a look at upgrading the ventilation plumbing.

Not so much tired of it Dave, more tired of other people not liking it.
I still have plans for something a bit 'out there' but that's a way off just yet, so time to get the original veneer look I think
Interesting thought about heater plumbing. It properly gets on my paps so could do with reviewing.
Also thinking of a CD less stereo if anyone has experience of one. Seems a waste of valuable space to me.

I recently upgraded the airflow vents. They fitted so badly that I felt that the heat leaking from them onto the back of the dash might have been one of the reasons the veneer had lifted, also the aluminium tubes rattled badly. I used the black plastic airflow vents, suitably covered in release agent, as a mould for the three dashboard ends of the pipes,. I cut the ends off the ali. pipes and used those for the two front (of car) fittings as well as new plates to screw into the airbox. The white plastic tubes are cut down waste fittings and the convoluted tube is from Car Builder Solutions. The result is more flow through the vents and also the dashboard pipes are much easier to fit as the convoluted hose can easily be pulled to its correct length and curvature.[

Hi Ian
The standard top hat DIN Rail is just the correct depth,I cut it into Z shaped brackets which I welded in position on the back of the dashboard (similar to the glued on TVR Brackets).I also fitted sticky back rubber to these so the edges of the instruments tightened up against this when in position to give a nice tight fit.
Hope this helps

Just took mine out for a quick blast as the sun is out and the fecking front splitter fell off after going over the soding speed humps on my estate lucky I was only going at eleventy four MPH ,
Got a new bonnet stay delivered as mine was missing as you know, they really are a s--t design.
you have got to see my Griff it really is nice
