Compulsive liar jailed after 11 false rape claims in decade
Discussion
There are a fair number of people like her out in the big wide world. It is not really vindictive normally, it's attention seeking. Some confess to every crime, others say, for instance, that they have lost someone when there's an air crash and such. The Mets used to keep a database of such people. Initially in a major incident you might think there were 200 people missing but as the filters come on it drops to three or four.
Aircrashes is another one. There was a crash at Stanstead of a 747 where it was crew only and Gatwick got a couple of calls from people saying that they had relatives on the flight. It was a cargo plane.
I would assume there are many nicks that have their own regular complainant of rape. There was one at Brighton, we called the Black Widow, who regularly attended with various accusations. My office PC once 'fitted up' a career-minded woman chief inspector, new to the division (and new to the world of crime reporting) with taking the complaint. The BW enjoyed the attention and the CI didn't: a perfect result.
I seem to remember there was a woman who poisoned her children slowly so she could keep going to hospital to visit them. I might be making that up though.
They go to the press as well and complain that they have not been taken seriously by the police, or that they were told to clear off. Experienced editors would spot these a mile off but every now an again a holiday and sickness take out the only two with any sense and papers put a massive headline on the front page only for it to be removed for the second edition (with no explanation). I remember one inspector from Devon and Cornwall being phoned whilst on a course from division and then coming back into class fuming with the stupidity of the press and discipline and complaints.

I've heard of this before but to be fair it could be just blind panic. People often get half a story and if a passenger plane had departed at roughly that time it's possible somebody could add 2 and 2 and get 5.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
