It had never crossed my mind to do it myself until my neighbour told me that she'd done her Springer herself and found it to be fairly easy. Looked good too.

There are some videos on YT and obviously websites with tips but I thought I'd ask on here as well in case anyone DIYs, plus advise on clippers would be useful.

Cheers

Nor everyone finds it easy, some of the home clips I've seen over the years have varied from the hilarious to the harmful (cutting their pets skin or causing a nasty clipped rash!)

There are some good guides on you tube. Oster are the best clippers but actually the Wahl range are good and cheaper, they also have a great customer service.

Keep it simple to start with until you get more confident and try not to use scissors unless they are stripping scissors. Don't overclip as can make the coat fluffy.

Our springer hates clippers - I think she associates them with being at the vets and having surgery.

I trim her fur with scissors though and this keeps her tidy.

^^^^^ Jackson doesn't mind at all, in fact the first guy I used had trouble keeping him awake hehe

Thanks for the tips, I think I'll get some Wahl Pro ones as the Osters are big money.

Our Border Collie would run a mile as soon as I got the clippers out ,but he was good as gold with scissors, although he would get restless after 1/2 an hour ,so I had to work quick. smile

I started to do my Cockers myself at the end of last summer.

I find it ok i just take my time, saved lots of cash already doing it this way. Obv i dont do a really top end job but its certaily acceptable.
