Whose had pets eat them and be ok?

I really need some reassurance. I obviously know cooked ckn bones are a no no. I did not give them to my animals, but unfortunately hubby didn't clear them away properly last night (I didn't realise) we don't know if our cat Lucy ate them o/night or if Jimmy (the dog) ate them in the minute he had a chance to this am. Cue one very pissed off/ worried and now even more stressed vet nurse this morning.

My question is as above, I only tend to see the ones who get complications from eating such things but I am really hoping to read lots of stories telling me their dogs and cats have been fine after doing such a thing! I think I'll go into a meltdown if anything happens to either of them because of this frown

As you know they are ok to eat fresh uncooked but cooked makes them into shards but your lucky.

In the stomach the acid soon sorts them out into blunt mush. In my job we had dramas about people eating pins or razor blades but not anymore.

That's the type of reply I like to read smile. Good common sense!

Jimmy is snoozing away, no sign of oesophageal discomfort (such as coughing) even for him he'd had to have eaten them bloody quick. Hubby only left him in the kitchen for a minute, if that, so unless he swallowed them whole!

Unfortunately Lucy has buggered off outside. She had all night to chomp on them (she's a Maine Coon, so easy for to do so) will have to wait and see with her.

Plenty of people have fed their dogs and cats cooked chicken over the years and been fine. We have "educated" quite a few people on this matter who previously just gave whatever leftovers they had to their pets including things like uneaten cooked chicken wings etc

And my understanding is that if they had a problem it is pretty much within minutes/seconds of eating as the things get lodged.

On Christmas day whilst out walking one of my dogs came across a whole cooked chicken carcass. I couldn't get near him once he had it and he completely finished it off. He only weighs 8.5kg so is not a huge dog.

I was worried sick all of Christmas day but he was absolutely fine.

Our cat's eaten cooked leftover chicken bones for a while. No ill effects, other than a 6kg cat.

Thank you all. Glad to say both Lucy and Jimmy seem fine so panic over.

I'm so on edge about both of them and their health and my recent bad luck with my pets I was convinced there was going to be something bad happen to one or both of them!!

Our dog nabbed a barbecued chicken leg that was just lying on the road outside a pub. I was astonished how quickly she grabbed it and even more astonished how quickly it disappeared. It was about as long as her head but somehow went down in one gulp, probably because I was quickly tried to get it out of her mouth.

That was last summer and she was absolutely fine thankfully. We kept a close eye on her in the following few days and most of it came through.

It is suprising how many folks throw chicken bones over garden walls.;(

Our cats had them (only the big thick thigh bones though) and they were fine. My OH's mum gives her chihuahua cooked thigh bones too and she's fine (the dog that is hehe)

I've been giving chicken bones to the many dogs and cats I've had over 40+ years and I've never had a vet's bill as a result of it yet.

I too was concerned about it many years ago, but I had one particular cat in 1970 or so who decided to "help out" with a chicken I'd left defrosting in the kitchen... frown

She came to no harm and all her many successors have been the same.

Raw chicken bones are usually ok, it's cooked chicken bones that are a danger, which us why I was concerned but all seems fine. smile
