"The Welsh pop singer Bonnie Tyler has been confirmed as the UK representative for Eurovision 2013.

The 61-year-old, best known for her 1983 hit Total Eclipse of the Heart, said she was "honoured" to be asked."

Have we now just given up and resigned overselves to sending our pensioners over with a cuppa Horlicks for company?

Is she a pensioner yet?

Does it matter?

I bought a car she used to own. It was ok for most of the time, but every now and then it falls apart.

Go and sit quietly in a corner and think about what you've just done.

She probably wore it out driving aimlessly around France - looking for a hero.

I'm sure she's represented us before. I think she lost in France.

She'd always get so far then turn around.

I knew someone who was her tour chef. Apparently she likes a hard egg for breakfast

Did you agree with the NME award for the Stones as Best Live Act? Do you plan to buy the new David Bowie album? Will you be going to the Fleetwood Mac, Mark Knopfler or Eric Clapton gigs? Expect to be in line for Led Zep tickets if they actually reform for a tour? Off to the Deep Purple gig in October? Or the Who at the O2? Or Springsteen in June? Don;t bother. All pensioners. Then again, there is always Justin Bieber.

I've got the Bonnie Tyler voice option on my satnav. If I the wrong road, it says "turn around brighteyes"

It's a reasonably terrible song, but come on, it'll be a laugh. The performance will almost certainly be a 150% overwrought effort, complete with massively powerful wind machines and more dry ice than you can imagine. Not that she'll win, but it has to be better than Engelbert.....

Thing is though, nothing's going to match the majesty of the Moldovan entry from 2011. If you don't remember it, they had massively tall pointy hats. And a hot girl playing a trumpet. On a unicycle. Dressed as a fairy.

Basically, Eurovision's quite inventive these days. There's still a lot of utter crap, of course, and there's usually some dull Greek/Turkish ballads, but the reason we never win is because the songs we put in there are genuinely terrible. Sure, there's the usual territorial voting, but broadly we don't take it seriously. If we did, we'd do very well indeed, but as long as we carry on entering has-beens or dire never-will-be's like Scooch, there's no chance.

If John Lennon and George Harrison were brought back and the UK entered a re-formed Beatles we still wouldn’t win, so I don’t see the problem with Bonnie Tyler. And even if she finishes last we still get to be in the competition next year.

As a slight aside, I note the Tony Lommi from Black Sabbath wrote this year’s entry for Armenia

Given the state of the countries finances, and that the winner has to host the following year; I believe the selectors have been watching Father Ted...

No opinion as I haven't seen them live.

Nope.

I can't stand him either.

I'm just surprised that after the poor result with Englebert last year, and with an entire country of rich talent that is struggling to get a break, they've chosen to send Bonnie. Have we really got no one else to send?

I hope whoever played the drums on "Holding Out For A Hero" performs on the night - I think it might have been animal from the muppets.
