Seems a lot you PistonHeader's know the Scottish Island's very well. Will be staying 3 nights on Lewis (not Harris as my topic headline!) So far like the look of Broad Bay house. This will be our treat and will find cheaper Hotels/accommodation for the other 5 days! Any other suggestions? Also nice pub to stay at Loch Lomond. Many thanks.

Doesn't look much from the outside (they are not allowed to paint it!), but it's nice and clean, with very nice rooms, and such a lovely spot.

Self catering? Like Blue Reef Cottages? There are a lot of self catering cottages there, a lot of sprung up the past couple of years.

If you want something a bit out of the way (even by western isles standards) try Auberge Carnish.

Thanks all for suggestions. Will be hitting the "book" buttons tomorrow. Will be an 8 day driving trip from Kent in April, and am realising that this will not be long enough but a very good taster' for Scotland. We will have 2 nights in Loch Lomond, 3 nights on Harris, then returning home, 1 night on Skye and 2 nights in the Lake District. First time in Scotland for me can't wait!
