I need some advice please, my 5 year old V8 has only covered 2500 miles in the last year since its last service. It needs an MOT but i'm not sure if it needs another full service ? I don't mean to appear to be tight but the car drives great so wondering if I need to go through the hassle.

All advice welcome

Thanks

Jamie

Service schedule is annual, or every 10k miles... Miss a service, be prepared for a much reduced selling price, and a much reduced buyer pool...

I for one wouldn't even consider an Aston without a complete service record..smile

I'm afraid it does indeed need a full service, regardless of miles. Certainly if you EVER want to sell it on. Based on your rationale, would you leave it 4 years and only have it done every 10k miles..? wink

2.5k is on the low side, but nothing out of the ordinary for an Aston. Get it done at an independent and make sure you only have done what is necessary; for example, many people have opted out of having the spark plugs changed unless there is an issue with them.

Ask them to do an inspection service. They don't actually do anything but check the car over and advise of any work they think needs to be done. They stamp the book and write "inspection" beside it.

Surely you'd want an oil and filter change at the very very least? I even do that on my knackered old Fiesta shed.

A 5 year old Vantage must be worth £30K+, unless that sum is unimportant to you I think you should protect your investment and get it serviced.

But that's assuming the oil wasn't changed the previous year, only 2.5k miles ago.
It's not like milk, it doesn't turn sour y'know wink

What we do with machines that haven't done much work since the last annual service is just change the oil & air filters. That is assuming the oil is still in good condition.

OP talk to someone like Bridge Mill they will have seen this before and may have a suggestion.

Aren't you going to lose loads of oil anyway when you remove the filter? It hardly seems worth saving the cost of the oil.

Either way, you'll lose much more money on the value of the car by skipping a service than you will save in the cost of a service. Get it booked in to a decent indy!

Nope ~1 litre tops as most will drain away whilst the engine is stood, cost of oil on a Vantage is ~£150 depending on who is supplying it wink
I agree on doing it properly mine will always get a full service, some people like to save on servicing. Their choice.

I have just used Bridge Mill for the first time. They changed the plugs and coils on my DB7 for a good price which they stuck to. The car was also nicely valeted and they incidentally fixed the over fast tick over problem I had been told elsewhere was not adjustable. They were very knowledgeable and helpful.

It's a good point to make when servicing these cars.

Once you have settled on your servicing agent, don't just book it in blindly and not participate in the process.

Your car should contain a list of issues you've experienced during the last 12 months - intermitent problems with the fuel filler cap, rusty nut on the windscreen wiper, loose rubber seal on the boot etc.

Whilst being serviced, these will be attended to 'gratis' by the agent, with more serious issues being taken care of under warranty or at least being investigated and quoted on.

You only service once a year - embrace the process and maximise the experience smile
