Any recommendations? ... 2 nts in chiang mai (up to say £100/nt) and 6 nts in Koh Chang - maybe split 3 nts basic beachside type place, and 3 nts luxury - to experience different aspects/locations.. Other nights in Bangkok and pattaya already booked

On Koh Chang, the Amari was pleasant for the more sophisticated and Buddha View for your more budget.
The Amari is well located, with a great long pool and beachside position. @ minutes walk on the beach to bars and restaurants.
Buddha View is located at one end of the island and tucked away at the end of a pier in a fishing village. Superb place, from 25 quid a night. The restaurant has holes in the floor under the tables, where you can dangle your legs into the sea whilst you dine! A great little place.
