Hi I have a 1997 wrx wagon with td04 turbo ,car is going in for a remap via esl soon with full decat, panel filter, walbro pump 3 port boost solenoid ,I was thinking of putting a Td05 16 turbo on and 440 injectors , would it be worth it for the power gain . I have seen some td04 running 300 bhp , what do you reckon thanks

Put some proper injectors in like 510's/550's with a 16G and there's no reason why you can't see 330-340bhp no probs.

Thanks I was hoping I would be ok with the yellow 440 s and a td05 not wanting to spend the extra on bigger injectors , have to get all these parts fitted and mapped costing me quite a bit

you will be fine on 440#s with a 16g, make sure the fuel pump is done though

I'd have said 300 tops safely on 99RON. If they are making 320+ on your rollers on 440's what sort of AFR's do they have to be running with a 16G?

My old sti2 made 300 with the standard tdo5 and injectors at 1.1bar.

you should be able to get above this with 440's and a bit more boost if your car is healthy.

I've got 740's on mine , as I felt it pointless to buy 550's then upgrade again ..... Anyway running the 16g the most martin at engine tuner could squeeze out was 318bhp using a simtek ecu .

No reflection on your tuner or anything else like that but 318bhp from a 16G and those injectors which are clearly more man enough for the job is pretty poor. I assume you run a front mount intercooler and some kind of induction kit with a walbro fuel pump and full decat exhaust system.

I can only think there must be some kind of issue with either your turbo, boost leaks, Vacuum leak, EBCS dirty or faulty, uppipe leak, too much DET maybe due to using 95RON instead of 99RON or just a bad batch of fuel, it happens, or too much boost or timing or even very low compression on your engine, faulty sensor, faulty fuel pump etc...

That doesn't sound right at all as the 16G will definitely make 330-340+, specially if there is plenty of fuel on tap, or perhaps the tuner tuned it to that level as he felt it might have been the safest state of tune for the condition of the engine or as i've said, maybe it was getting a lot of DET.

You might need to go back to him to have another look at it.

Update on this , I was let down on the turbo so had the car mapped with the td04 , sti panel filter ,walbro pump , full decat and 3 port boost solenoid, using esl , was fun for a few weeks with the new improved boost over standard but as always I'm now bored of the power it has . what next my car is a 1997 wrx wagon low miles , thinking vf35 injectors and a sti8 top mount , or maybe a vf28 what do you think looking for around 330 bhp with quick spool thanks

VF28 or VF30 or VF35, all on 550's will run very nice. I've mapped with all 3 and although my fave is the VF30 i think the 28 and the 35 are still very good and either would make you happy. VF28 will get you where you want to be and spool really well.

Too many vf 28 have had it these days. Vf30 never really works as well as it should. Vf34/35 both work well but slightly more money.

440cc injectors normally allow 340bhp at 11:1afr

Thanks for your replies , I'm going to go for a vf35 and 440 cc injectors ,do I need to upgrade my top mount intercooler for this sort of power or is standard ok , also I have seen a lot of vf35 turbos with small cracks next to the wastegate what problems does this cause , thanks
