Hello,

Being "Mr Memory" I've completely forgotten who my car is insured with (it is insured, I checked with MIB!) and I partly blame these comparison sites because I just click the cheapest and get on with my fast-paced life (I know, I know, I'm clutching at straws!). We're also in the middle of a house move right now so the paperwork is in a.n.other box at the moment (you get the idea of how organised I am).

Anyway, does anyone know how I can find out who I'm insured through. I'm just hoping that there's something online that will give me the company/site.

Thanks,
Phil.

SS2.

Try and trigger an ANPR, they will be able to tell you.

Assuming you pay by Direct Debit or Standing Order, you could contact your bank?

Why? Surely you check the Ts & Cs to ensure you're getting like for like cover. And then do some research to ensure the prospective insurer has a good reputation. What's their security, do they do courtesy car, and hidden excesses or other conditions.

Am I the only one that thinks car insurance is quite an important purchase.

I've been here before, I contacted my bank and they gave me the info to contact my insurance PROVIDER, unfortunately they were not the firm I had taken out the insurance with and were unsure as to whether they could tell me who I had actually taken out my insurance with. Evenntually found the info in an old e-mail account, good luck mate.

Bank account is my least favoured option at the moment because I paid the premium in one go.

Emails are my next port of call but will have to wait until I get home.

Thanks everyone for the info etc.

Maybe he only has 3rd party cover and hence doesn't give a fig about anything other than being "legal"?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: There's two reasons why people buy car insurance:
1. Because it's a legal requirement, and
2. Because they want a payout if something happens

Not everyone buys for reason #2, some buy just for reason #1.

Bingo.
And when their claims service is so poor that the third party gets fed up with lack of response and just issues a summons against you as the negligent driver, then what?

This.
Once a year I go online, find the cheapest quote and shell out a lump sum. I haven't had an 'accident' in 24 years driving other than being driven into whilst stationary. I fix and maintain my vehicles and have access to a recovery truck. Taking responsibility for yourself removes much of the need for the trimmings of most policies IMHO.

Then I'll curse my lackadaisical attitude to insurance, find out where you live and knock on your door and slap my forehead saying "D'oh! You were right. What AM I like".

assuming you're in walking distance from me as my car will be u/s. If not, I'll update this thread instead

In a similar vein, I get breakdown cover and legal cover through my bank account, so always untick these options when getting a quote.

Where can I access this useful metric? I haven't seen it on any comparison sites.

Check your bank statements around the time - there should still be a payment out to the insurer/broker even if in one go.

Failing that, you can pay the MID to get full details of your insurer if you really need it.

Otherwise, can you wait for renewal?

I need to to tax my car, unfortunately.
