San Francisco to Las Vegas Roadtrip
Discussion
In August we are flying into San Francisco and leaving from Las Vegas, with a road trip in between
To make it the all American road trip I was really looking to rent something like a Dodge Challenger or Chevrolet Camaro, as I've had friends hire them from Hertz or Avis in the past
I was sad to see on looking at these it appears that they don't allow one way trips, you have to drop it back at the same depot you collected it at
I then went on the search for other companies and comparison websites
When searching on Orbitz, I found the Camaro can be rented via Fox Rent A Car, having never heard of these I googled them only to be shocked at the amount of complaints! The wife is worried that if we book with them that there wont be any car reserved after reading reviews, and could end up ruining the holiday
The only other non normal cars I've found are a Chrysler C300 from Avis or Dodge Charger from Thrifty, but would prefer a Camaro lol
Anyone got any good help or advice? Or even used Fox Rent A Car?
Thanks
Ade

Yea, I know it will only be the regular V6 models, but would still look better in the photo album than a Ford Focus lol
It is or similar at Fox, but the only 3 cars in the category are are Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger or Ford Mustang (hard top). Any of which I'd be happy with tbh
Tried Virgin, they dont have anything decent to choose either; other than standard cars and SUV's
No one on the forum used Fox Rent A Car?
Thanks

I believe Fox at Vegas are not part of the main airport rental car facility, so you'll have an extra journey to make to get to the airport.
The worry I'd have about setting my heart on a specific car is whether it would be actually available when you arrived. I've previously arrived in Vegas on a friday night and the total inventory at the Dollar lot consisted 3x Mustangs and a Ford Edge SUV, that was despite the chap at the counter trying to upsell me from my booking of a Dodge Charger.

there is a 1 way rental charge with a lot of these companies, but some third party sites let you rent one way without the charge and book into the same companies. I've done the exact same trip, and think I booked through holiday autos who put me into an Alamo car.
If you're still not finding it (make sure that theres no small print about a $200 one way charge) google Hertz one way pc code. Something usually pops up.
Those american cars are all crap, I've driven them all, they give you the lowest base spec model, which usually has a big engine and no power.
Get a convertible instead, any type.
Always book american car rental via an english site since it will include all the insurance you need.
ALWAYS ignore the upsell at the desk, most of these companies (except Hertz) let you walk to the range of vehicle you've chosen (ie midsize, large, suv etc) and pick which ever one you want, so walk to the garage, find someone working there, and tip $20 and get them to put you in something better and endorse your rental form.

Just returned from California where we initially hired a V6 Mustang from San Francisco to LAX. When we went to pick up the car they offered us a V8 Camaro SS with only 469 miles on the clock for $100 extra. so, for a little over $400 we had a V8 muscle car for five days. I didnt stop smiling the whole time! that was with Hertz by the way.

Sounds like you had fun.I was once offered an upgrade that was going to cost me about £100 at SFO, so I passed.
You can imagine my surprise when the keys I was given opened the car they'd just asked me for £100 to upgrade to...
Clearly they can't downgrade you if thy don't have cars in your segment, so they try and sell you the upgrade to the car they have to give you anyway.... Well sometimes anyway

That thought did cross my mind but hey ho! I was so excited when they offered the camaro, I didnt ask what else they could offer. Could have had a Corvette! Mind you, Mrs Lemons would have had to stay behind to make room for my suitcase!!I was once offered an upgrade that was going to cost me about £100 at SFO, so I passed.
