Its looking good James, congratulations on what you have achieved in that little garage, you should be proud!

What are your plans for the front number plate, as we all now, these are pretty ugly things and spoil the look of many cars. If it were me I would try to use something a little smaller than you are supposed to, not massively so and try and get in located low on something that would make the plate flat, below the front air intake. When I had my MR2 I external use velcro which held the front plate on after the original number plate mount was damaged.

Another question, is the area behind the rear doors that look like they should be windows, even though they are on the rear clam shell? Just seems like they need finishing off a bit. The front look excellent, they hydro dipping has worked really well and the contrast between the red an the black/carbon was a good choice.

I sort of agree on the back end, after how stylized the front looks, the back in a way seems like in needs something, I don't know what though. I look forward to seeing how the updated rear light and exhaust work out.
Your points are all great and similar to what I have planned.

  • Front number plate - I have a 90% size number plate (stick on) for the front, being only 5 letters it can be nice and small as well. Its large enough to look right and not too small to draw attention. I may stick it to a metal plate and then fibreglass some magnets underneath the lower vents, so I can just 'stick it on'
  • side window area - There are windows to go on there, up until now they've been perspex but I refuse to fit them again, they dont look as nice as glass and get scratched easily so more accurate templates are being made and pieces of glass will be made to shape to finish that area off. probably 4 - 6 weeks off being done.
The backend will develop a little more, the lights really date the rear end (in my view), so I will need to try different things, from lotus elise style lights, to LED tube lights in a shape. Advantage with that black area, I can always just make a plate to go in that area and have the lights on that so precut holes don't matter and of course change and develop them without cutting new holes in the car and just switching over a plate with a new design of rear light. (I hope)

I like the look of these, but looks like it might need a bit more work!

First time I've stumbled upon this thread. Can I just say what a fantastic looking car and really impressive effort on the build (especially in a small single garage). That it is a first time customer build and in a country remote from its origin makes it even more impressive. Excellent work.

Yes indeed - and (no pressure) will it be at Stoneleigh? I'm surely not alone in wanting to see it!

Got the engine back together and fired it up briefly with the exhaust barely on and no coolant in the system yet just to make sure I rebuilt it correctly....moment of truth soon enough on whether I've fixed the problem.

Engine has been running fine on the drive, why on the drive I'm still waiting on the side windows. Hopefully will be fitted this week so I can take the car out over the bank holiday.got a few other jobs done;

  • Front ride height at 85mm to clear speed humps
  • Wax'd wheels to help keep brake dust off
  • Exhaust exit fitted, but will change again as it doesn't suit the car
  • Exterior Door handles removed and remote eletric opening system fitted
  • Car undersealed + arches
  • Front arch foam protection to stop fibreglass starring
  • temporary door cards made to tidy doors up

First time I've been lucky enough to drive the car with no major issues other than running a bit hot. Not overheating just running hot.

Although think I've found the cause and hopefully a solution in for next weekend.

Always nice to have a friend smile

So things different about this one is, it has a rear design change in a few areas which I think do work better.

  • exhaust hole in middle
  • rear vent not flush but sit back
  • vents on the top
Most importantly, extra rear recessed clips on the side, these will be a saving grace to keep the rear clam shell with good lines and less movement. An area of my car I'm not happy with, mainly because I haven't had the time to spend ages lining it up perfectly but that is a good improvement. One of the disadvantages of being first!

Made it to a local PH meet a few weeks back and still had some niggles on way there and back;

  • Headlight plastic clip holder popped out of bracket - plastic clip replaced
  • Coilover top mount nut came loose - known issue
The coilovers were shot anyway. leaked during the build but I didn't want to replace them till I knew id complete it and actually driven on them. The coilovers that leaked were BC Racing Coilovers RM series (inverted) they basically leaked doing nothing at all. Wont ever be buying them again...ever!

Put on some MeisterR coilovers, which although I suspect are produced at the same factory do have differences. Its now nice to drive the car, rides the bumps well, reasonably soft and not crashing and banging from the coilovers! I believe they use a slightly larger valve in the damper and use a longer damper stroke / spring on the rear.

Now I think the clutch is slipping slightly with the higher power so turned the power back down for time being whilst I sort out the bits to do that on the drive, never done a clutch before!

And lastly this picture taken by Rob (I think) at the PH local meet

Very nice, great colour choice.

Its crying out for a carbon rear spoiler though to complete the rear end?

I'm not sure what to do with the rear end wing wise, got use to it without one. then I think maybe a wing would be good and then I get stuck choosing between carbon one to more of a moulded bodywork type one.

Something ill have to make a decision on eventually.
