I don't yet I hear people eulogising about it.

I flew Emirates Sydney to Auckland and back a few days ago, in economy. At both airports checkin and boarding took forever - in Auckland it took two hours to check in and clear security, just in time to join the massive queue to board.

Then luggage claim took an eternity as well, in Sydney I stood at the belt for 45 minutes watching luggage go by before my case arrived. Just too many people on one plane.

The flight itself was OK, quiet and smooth, but the seats were nothing special, the usual economy nightmare where the person in front reclines into your lap. The food was pretty inedible, as usual, as well.

I just don't get why people seem to love it, it got me there and back but it was far from being a pleasant experience.

A lot of that seems to be airport issues. I haven't seen an A380 in Dubai take that long to board. I'm not sure on bags though because I always have priority baggage so it has always been having a ride on the belt before I get there.

My problem with the A380 is that the business class feels very cramped compared to Emirates' 777.
