You don't have to justify anything to me. I was just curious. I have a road and track helmet. I bought the best one of each I could afford. My mentality was to buy the best helmets that I could afford rather than have a choice of 6 cheaper ones.
Having had concussion and memory problems after a crash, I realise more than anyone how important helmets are and would not recomend people to buy cheap

The bell is a 5 star sharp. Having had concussion and memory problems after a crash, I realise more than anyone how important helmets are and would not recomend people to buy cheap
Your X-Lite is a 4
Most Arai's are 3
The bell helmets are one of the safest lids on the market. Why do you assume bell are cheap st. There not there just an American brand. Bell was doing F1 before Arai. It still is.
You'll struggle to get a better helmet bar Shoei.

Bell Carbon M5X turned up today, looked great, really light, but sadly couldn't even get on my head! So sending it back for a bigger size. It's a large, the same size as my shoei XR1100, so just a heads up (no pun intended) that you might need a size bigger than usual if you have a "Shoei head" like mine....
That's strange because I'm a large with both and the fit is fine. moanthebairns said:

I'm just saying what he did. I have no informed views on it all I know is its scary not being able to read for a week.
Can anyone who's received a bell lid post up what size they ordered and how this compares to what they usually wear in terms of Arai or Shoei sizes?
Which lid is the 1100 gram version?
Per the link below, the weight listed suggests it's 2.3kg?

I got the medium M5X in the 1954 scheme and it's similar to my medium Shoei X Spirit 2.Which lid is the 1100 gram version?

Maybe a bit tighter around the forehead but I'm sure it will loosen off after a few uses.
The carbon version is 1100g, not sure where the 2300g comes from, it is exceptionally light.
This should be the Bell helmet thread, will be a right fashion disaster at the next BB meet
Wind noise - better than my Shoei NXR, it feels a little more aerodynamic.
Fit - compared to same Shoei NXR, slightly tighter on the crown of my head and cheeks; though mainly just cheeks now after wearing it for a couple of hours.
It's definitely a lot lighter than my NXR too (which is a light helmet at 1.36kg to the Bell's 1.2kg), but the Shoei still feels better quality in terms of the lining, strap and chin curtain material. Peripheral vision isn't as good either. But it's no budget helmet, as it's definitely better all round than my Shark Speed-R (a mid range helmet to be fair). The vent mechanism on the front is stupid too, reach inside the helmet to open it? Not very useful on the move! Anti-fog seemed to work so far (15 degrees and no vents open). The visor changing is fking stupid as well - can see me forgetting the allen key at some point.
Some pics of dark visor and bits fitted (took the breath guard thing off):

Two screws on either side, it really is OTT.
