I hate the modern obsession with making any genius character have Asperger syndrome, like you can't be brilliant and normal at the same time; just so mediocre people feel better about themselves. His emotional intelligence should be well ahead of everyone else too..
Not sure it's Aspie really. He's an alien who deals with life and death on a galactic scale, so what we care about isn't the same as what he cares about. It's like us trying to understand the cares and worries of a doormouse.Besides that - enjoyed this one. This series has felt strong for me. Bold, interesting ideas and the courage to take them over more than one episode. Some smart little asides and stuff to keep it all going.
Agree with the last few posters above.
The 2 parter format is working well.
If its like that throughout the season it shows the Producers are still brave to play with the format.
But I can remember a lot of the Matt Tenant ones being 2 parters so it may just be we have them at the start of the season.
Either way well done

Much better. Almost seems like they have been listening. A return to cliffhanger endings to add tension and allow the stories time to develop. Dropping the sonic screwdriver as a get out of anything free card. Less fantasy plots. Its gone a touch darker as well which is great because the Hartnell days could be very dark indeed and after all everyone knows he was the best Doctor ever. More to do but so much better.
Apparently since 2005 this is the first time 'regular' episodes are two parters, before it was specials or season openers & finales.
Liking the humour this season too, Capaldi seems to be channelling Tom Baker quite a lot of the time anyway but this season they're having some proper jokes.
‘Two weeks of Mysterious Girl by Peter Andre! I was begging for the brush of death’s merciful hand’
As for the episode there were bits of Alien, Aliens and Alien3 (corridor chase) in there for a start, probably lots of other stuff too.

Stuck in a base under the water being chased by an alien power trying to take over the crew. Quite a bit like the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit where they are stuck in a base on a planet, being chased by an alien power trying to take over the crew. Or The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People where they are stuck in a base on earth being chased by clones who are trying to kill the crew. Or The Waters of Mars, where they are stuck on a base on Mars and are being chased by an alien power taking over the crew, or 42 when they are stuck on a spaceship being chased by an alien power taking control of the crew........oh no hang on those last ones weren't two parters.
In other words, the better episodes seem to be following a plan.
I liked those above as I did like this one, it follows the plan.
