Still enjoy the updates of this thread so keep them coming.

Well done for doing nearly all of this by yourself.

Thanks longintheleg, it is still nice to get positive coments. Especially when you are putting in the late nights.
Hopefully on the home stretch now. It is starting to actually look like a cage.

Must admit I felt bad last night, some of the tight areas Arron had to wedge himself in.

One of the reasons I gave him the largest crate of beer I could get my hands on this morning, plus cash obviously.

i had a 318is coupe and it was an amazing car, somewhat prefer it to my e36 328 touring

Glad you like it DanMateX.
Time to make sure it wasn't all going to easy. Seat back in, skin lid on. Thankfully my helmeted head seems to miss the cage, with room to move.

After that I put her up in the air, the welding has made a bit of a mess of the underseal. I will grind it all back and coat it with new underseal at the weekend.

Hopefully the weekend might see the rear legs finished to.

They are Cobra Monaco Pro seats. They are pretty standard. I remember I had been looking for some black seats, put my name on a mailing list for some website. I had looked at the standard Monaco in black, thought those look nice but I can't afford them. The next day, I get an email, with 20% off a limited edition black and orange seat. Well I had to have them didn't I?

Last bits fabricated today, ready for welding on Tuesday.

As I was sitting in there with a disc cuter and belt sander I made the most of it. Cutting off every seat mount and bracket I could find no longer in use.

You're going to feel guilty if you've eaten a large breakfast, looking at the weight saving extremes!

Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Keep going. And take more pictures. And buy a supercharger. biggrin

Unfortunately my welder has gone on holiday. This has resulted in no real cage work thus week. But at least it has given me a chance to strip back the wiring loom ready for re routing.

Looks like a mess I know. But a lot of it is coming out.

One thing that I really couldn't believe was how much wiring an E36 has when I broke one. It's stupendous. Chuck the stuff you're not using on a bonfire and take the resulting copper down to the scrapman the next day. hehe

Thanks Tom. We are planning on the last big welding session tomorrow night. Then hopefully it will just be tidy up and paint.

Now that we have finished welding the floor, it's about time I repaired the underseal.

Wire wheeled all the burnt and droopy underseal back until it was still stuck to the floor. Making sure to remove all the surface rust to. Quick coat of self etch. Then dried gently with a hot air gun. Followed by a coat of new underseal.

Did this on all four corners of the cage. While I was under there I lowered the car onto jacks moved the ramp arms out and cleaned the original jacking points. Three out of the four plastic jacking points were missing when I bought the car. I have been putting her up on a ramp so often that the paint on the chassis points has worn away. So again wire wheeled, self etch then a coat of stone chip, before three new jacking points fitted.
Right I'm off to work to give the now dry underseal a coat of stone chip, before everyone turns up and the car has to go outside again.

Good lad. I've neglected my jacking points and have come to regret it. One has exploded, and I have a feeling the rest ain't too great. frown

Another early start this morning after a very late night. But it's in!

I have to say I'm very pleased with it, I can't thank Arron enough for all his help.
In bright and early this morning to start the paint. Basic Hammerite on the feet and front legs up to dash level. Then at the weekend I will mask the whole car and spray the rest.

I did have some time while Arron was welding as well to start re wrapping the loom in the boot. Going to run it back down the middle and cut out any extra length around the passenger seat.
