Jeb invented the ladder and has finally set foot on minmuss.

I have struggled to land on the mun again but thats my next objective.

Each time I go back to the moon now, I am trying to land near the memorial, but I've forgotten where it is exactly. I don't want to resort to looking at previous saves or look it up on t'internet, so each Mun mission now is quite an adventure.

It's amusing to think that at the beginning I used to think crashing into the moon was a big achievement. Now I fly up there and casually loaf around for a while, taking in the sights. smile

Does anyone know if the claw will grab a rocket rather than an asteroid? Jeb ran out of fuel on the way back from Minmuss and is stuck in high Kerbin orbit. I know I can EVA him to another rocket but I would like to recover the ship for the science.

I dont know, but you could do a fairly easy experiment on kerbin with a sample rocket and a rover with the claw on the front.

I always test stuff on kerbin first, Last night i was testing out repacking chutes after a landing for re-use.

According to the wiki it will grab another ship and allow me to transfer fuel and electricity. I just had a go at trying to reach Jeb and this is not going to be easy at all to get near him.

Orbital rendezvous and docking can be quite tricky to get your head around, but becomes quite straight forward when it all 'clicks.'

How do I install mods to the game? I've saved the file, but I have no idea how to get the mod on the game.

They should be installed in a folder called GameData which is in the main Kerbal folder. Many mods will have a folder called Gamedata, so it's as simple as copying the contents across.

So, Ive made my Science! Catcha

It comprises of a non-landing science lab, with fuel,RCS and a docking port, this is orbiting Minmus then there is a small lander, this has all my science gear on it, it lands in a biome on Minmus, gathers data, rendevous with the Science lab, the data is processed and transmitted to Kerbin, the science ports are cleaned, the lander gets re-fuelled, and repeats until all the science for that biome is gathered, then we move on to the next biome, and repeat.

Its really helping with my Docking, i can feel me getting better each time. and its starting to 'click' more, im doing it a lot easier.

I visited the poles 3 times and got around 800 Science! Theres about 8 biomes on Minmus (have a map on the Wiki) so i should be able to complete a fair bit of the tech tree from this mission.

Il repeat the mission using the Mun and that should be enough to fill my tech tree. smile

(i dont have pics as im on the works PC)

Been looking through some of my designs, and thought I would do a line up of my small one-man landers.

Some are 2-stage, with the ascender designed to dock back with an orbiting command module, whilst others are single stage designed to return to Kerbin on their own. I think there's a 2-stage in there where the ascender isn't required to dock with a command module, but just returns directly to Kerbin.

L-R : 2-stage orbit and rendezvous, single stage direct return, 2-stage orbit and rendezvous, 2-stage direct return, single stage direct return with jettisonable side tanks, single stage direct return, but can also rendezvous and dock if required.

Beautiful flying Derek.

The mighty science lander is now netting about 560 science per trip now that I have the Gravioli detector.

Minmus makes it easier, as if you don't get it quite right on initial touchdown, it doesn't take a lot to do a couple of small hops.

Tell me about it. I spent ages trying to land on the north pole of the Mun. Worst place ever to land so far.

Trying to land at the pole of any body is a bit tricky, especially if you are spot on, as the physics start to get a bit weird.

I've started career mode, and I'm having a spot of bother with the SC-9001 Science Jr... I have attached one of there to my ship, and gone into high orbit. When I right click on it and observe the materials bay, I get a report with a science value. So far so good. When I land the craft and recover it however, the science for this is not in the final tally. I have saved the data so it should come back with the recovered vessel shouldn't it? All I get is the science from the EVA and samples. What gives?

When you click 'observe materials' up get an on-screen report. The green line is how much science you will get if you being the report back to kerbin. I think that maybe you are resetting the materials bay, this will reset the experiment and discard the report.

You can get a report from the launch pad and runway, I would play around with a capsule on top of a science jr, (don't even need to launch) and see if you can figure it out.

Hmm. It seems if I do my lab stuff, land and recover I get the science. If I do the lab stuff, land, do an Eva report and take a sample it loses the lab science and keeps the others...
