Having put up threads on virtually every other location we've been pondering I thought another one wouldn't hurt. smile

We're going on honeymoon in mid-September and we've left it rather late to book - not helped by the fact we're not entirely sure where we're going yet. The current favourite seems to be Tuscany or somewhere in rural Italy.

Can anyone offer any recommendations for places to stay? Budget is circa £1,000 per person for a week assuming a half board package (i.e. flights, transfers, dinner etc) - maybe a little more - so it's relatively low budget for a honeymoon.

We're looking for somewhere fundamentally quiet and tranquil that still has a few things to do once we've got bored of sitting by the pool - some easy mountain biking or walking trails or maybe a spot of culture.

Good food is a must (but preferably somewhere that's not too heavily biased towards seafood as neither of us like fish!) We're after somewhere small and characterful that either has its own restaurant or is within easy walking distance of one - we don't want to be piling into a taxi or hire car in order to get dinner.

So ... any thoughts?

I will be in Tuscany on my honeymoon at the same time. We are going to put the car on a train in paris and pick it up in nice, then drive around the coast.

have you looked at any of the agriturismo websites?
there are millions to choose from.

Interesting. I didn't even realise that was possible.

The future SWMBO isn't into cars at all, though, so I fear we might be better off saving the money for a nicer hotel and whatever boggo Fiat the hire company has available.

Hadn't discovered the Agriturismo website. Looks like a good point of reference.

It's not half-board, but the owners can cook for you if you like.

Now there's an idea...

We've seen several secluded little villas we like the look of, but they're inevitably self-catering and miles from the nearest restaurant. In a way, a little self catering or B&B type place with someone popping in to cook the dinner (or a neighbouring restaurant) would be the ideal situation.

I think we might have found a winner.

This place seems to have a nice balance of ammeneties and rustic charm: http://www.polvano.com/relais_in_tuscany/relais_sa...
