New drivers and points......

OK, this subject has been mentioned many times but,
can someone please confirm for me the length of 'probation' that a new driver serves, ie, if they get 6 or more points in this period of time they lose there licence.
Now, my sister was done for speeding, 3 and a £60, she passed her test back in October and said to me she is lucky it happened so close to the end of her probationary period, ie 4 months away, but that is only a year, not as I have always thought to be the case, 2!
Has this been changed recently?
When I passed my test 16 months ago, the 6 points within 2 years stood, but was adament that it was 1!
Is this stuff contained in the highway code? DSA website? Any other places? I need to know cos if I am right
1. I can turn round and say "Told you so!"
2. I can warn her to be careful into year 2!

Well, I've just looked at the DSA Website and
Road Traffic (New Drivers) Act 1995 -
If 6 or more penalty points are recieved within 2 years of passing your test then the DVLA will automatically revoke your licence when notified by court or fixed penalty office!
I think thats all the confirmation I'm looking for!
