hi all,

could someone advise me on the procedure for removal and checking out the motor for the window mechanism on my V8S?? I have checked the switch and that works correctly, is there a relay? If so, what is the specification for ordering a replacement and from where please?

It was working perfectly fine for the last 6mths, then just stopped working, thankfully in the up position.

Prise the switch up out of the centre console and jiggle the wires around. I'll probably work again.

I know you say you have checked the switch but bare with me. The contacts in these things are so small that whilst you can get continuity through them they cannot pass a high enough current to operate the window motor. I would swap the two switches over. My money is on it being the drivers side that is not operating, am I right?

I added relays to my V8S switches so they only have to operate the relay coil, the heavy duty stuff is handled by the relay.

Sorry for jumping in on this , but Oldred_V8S said that the switch may not be able to carry the current. With my limited understanding of electrics, does this mean if I run a direct line from battery terminals to window motor terminals, it will let me know if the motor is actually ok?.

I ask because my drivers window is painfully slow.

There are many causes of slow windows, but high resistence in any part of the electrical circuit will not help. I replaced the rubber channels on my car as the felt had worn away and the exposed rubber was causing a lot of drag on the glass. I also added relays to the window switches so the minuscule switch contacts were only having to operate the relay coils and not handling the full load for the motor. This also protects the hard to obtain switches from burning out.

After doing the above my windows were a lot better, not as good as as modern vehicle but vastly improved over what they were.

Eta yes running power directly to the motor will prove the motor is ok or not

If your electric window motors are kn***ckered then you will have some difficultly in resolving the problem. There are at least three types of electric windows mechanisms and each has its own motor.

Type 1 early cars

Type 2 later cars

There is a 3rd type later still (and the same or very similar to the Griff), Alan Whitaker on here bought a set off me and might have photos to help.

David Gerald in Redditch can (and have) converted earlier types to the Griff set up, they should be able to help

I am trying baize in the channels, much less drag on the glass. We use it at work for the base of trophies and awards.
