Hi

I'm not home this weekend and am on a pretty tight schedule.

If you could perhaps read the earlier posts on this thread, all the answers to your questions are there.

Best wishes

I'm about to buy a tablet to use this on. What is it that determines the compatibility. What besides the android version is impacting the non compatible devices in the compatible device table.
If you can install the app from the play store on your device, chances are the device will work. It needs to be capable of USB Host otherwise play store won't enable you to install it, some of the devices in the table aren't USB host capable which is why they don't work.

I'm about to install the app on a nexus, but also have a Galaxy Mega I want to try, would I need to buy twice or can I install the app on both devices under my Play account?
You can install on multiple devices using the same play account (I had no issues doing it to test various devices).

All up and running. Awesome app.

Just need to work out how to get it all back in the the footwell nearly now.

Thanks all.

I was due a phone upgrade so opted for a samsung s3 mini and a samsung galaxy tab3 7" specifically to run this app. I've downloaded the app on to both devices (the tab3 needed an android update before the app would let me download). The program runs on both devices but neither work on the car. I'm hoping it's my USB serial lead (£2.99 eBay) and not device compatibility issues. The lead quoted by Aide from Amazon is £12.99. Do I get this one or are my devices a waste of space?

Hi Paul,
Thanks for downloading the app.
Not sure about the S3 Mini, but I believe someone tested the tab3 unsuccessfully.
Unfortunately I don't have time to test every USB to Serial and USB OTG cable available. The ones I have successfully tested are listed on the PlayStore. If your device is usb host enabled then it should be ok.
Happy to work with you to resolve any issues and get you up and running if you have the correct cables.
Best wishes!

Thanks for your reply. I've ordered the USB serial cable you recommend on amazon. Hopefully that will work.

I have one of these too and did some research before downloading the app. As standard this device does not support OTG. In other words if you plug in a USB stick with music on it, the phone will not recognise it, which is what is needed for this app to work.

I did try a couple of the 'tricks' suggested online without success, but I didn't spend long on it as I'm intending to upgrade in January anyway. If anyone does manage it without 'rooting' I would be interested though.

Aide, This looks excellent.

If you were starting from scratch (ie: I don't own a single android device) - which one is best suited for this application/what would you buy. Once up and running it will stay with the Cerb, not be used for anything else...

Hi James,

Thanks, I'll be adding data logging and a speedometer dial as soon as I get to the bottom of an issue I'm experiencing with FTDI chipsets...

To your question: I use my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) and it's perfectly fine. I guess if I didn't have an Android device and was starting from scratch I'd ask myself what I want it for.
If you wanted a dedicated screen in your car that also doubled for Satnav and Movies then you can't go far wrong with the Nexus or Galaxy tablets (old or new depending on budget). If you just want to check everything before you start the car, while it's warming up and occasionally while stuck in traffic then I'd just get a Samsung Galaxy S[3|4|5] as they're all great.

But, of the devices that have been confirmed to work so far, there really isn't a better one for the job, they all work perfectly.

So, for something that will stay in the car a nice 7" Nexus7 (which I believe someone is selling in a post or two above this one) is perfect.

HTH!

Hi. Has anyone connected a note3 ?
I am assuming that the manufacturers standard charge/data lead work if the usb end was plugged to a usb female- & then would it work if the 3 pin was put on the other end - just trying to avoid cable connected to cable connected to cable.
???

Guys I wanted to setup a more permanent fitting for the cables into the ECU so I bought a 90 degree bend 9pin D connector so I could drill a hole in the side of the ECU casing and run the cable out the side, instead of it coming straight up the top (if that makes sense!?) which means I can put the lid back on and slip it back into place in the footwell......

However what I actually did is buy 15 of them (!) so if any of you lot want to do the same, let me know and I can put one in the post to you.

(I will put up some pics up when I fit it all if it doesn't make sense)

Have taken the plunge and ordered a Nexus 7, the Amazon OTG cable and thought Id try out a battery pack that takes AA batteries.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009MYJKMY/ref=pe_38572...

Also using the 90 degree connector above (kindly donated by OutlawFlat4) I'll try making a semi permanent setup.
