Google reveals not a lot.

Are they still in demand?

Lotus 7 Club, PH other bits for sale section. Quite a small market.

i just bought one used off Blatchat... got it before finding the Caterham I wanted as they rarely show up for sale. Paid 1450£ for it which seems going rate used.

Getting it fitted now actually smile since i got a C7 again after 6 years hiatus

Thanks guys, I had a look around BC but couldn't find any recent for sale ads.

My car seems almost set up for sprinting - it has the 3.92 diff and a 6-speed box. The car really does accelerates like nothing else!

I feel a bit shameful to say it out loud, but I'm finding that it doesn't really suit my driving style. I use it more for a lazy summer evening blat - the engine is pulling 175bhp with decent torque and the set up encourages a more of a full-on attack mode on every drive. Plus I'd like longer legs for more distance touring.

So I'm considering swapping out for a good condition 5 speed box - on one hand it does seems a retrograde step, anyone done it?

The 6-speed box itself from was Road and Race Transmissions and only has a few thousand miles on it I think - I'll have to check the paperwork. Was just keen to see if there was much of a market. If not I'll invest some money in tracking down a 3.1 touring diff instead.

The 6 speed gearbox install/option from Caterham would normally be fitted with a 3.62 diff ... 3.92 is going to be ballistic off the mark but tiresome if touring. My 6sp/3.62 combination is bad enough and I intend to fit a 3.38 (Sierra diesel) diff to bring the revs down a little because of the mixed driving I do.
However ... get on track and the 6sp/3.62 combination is brilliant.

Out of interest, how many rev's would you be pulling at say 70mph in 6th given the 6sp/3.62 combo?

I'm still on the hunt for a car and am really torn between 5 speed or 6 speed.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I've a 6 speed box and I think I'm hitting ~4500 RPM at 70 but that's from my bad memory.

Revs at 70mph also depends on wheel/tyre combination. I'm on about 4,000rpm on a 3.92/6 speed/185x70x13 combination. Think I would probably want 3.62 diff If I was running 60 or 55 tyres.

So, out of interest, what would a brand new, never been installed, 6 speed for a Duruatec be worth?

Fair enough, I can see why that could get a bit tiring for touring etc

Great for hooning about though. Some ear phones in while on a drive and there's no real issue.

Standard 5 speed box is awful compared to the 6 speed. First is miles too low and overdrive 5th too high.
modified ones with decent ratios are are fine.

Keep the 5 speed and just get the ratios changed, unless you have a 1400K, it's far cheaper.

BTW, earlier on, I asked what a new 6 speed box for a Duratec was worth, not what it cost!
