Just picked up a 4 month old Siberian husky from a rescue centre. She is 4 months old.She was dumped in a field so was basically abandonded.Being so young i really started to wonder why?Do breeders look for certain traits/physical features in this breed? In particular i thought about the eyes. This one has really unusual eyes, the left one is half light blue and the top half is brown, the other one is the exact opposite way up??Would this be a reason for a breeder to reject it?Took this pic in my living room last night.

As far as I'm aware, miscoloured eyes are a sign of inbreeding (although this is often a desirable trait when people look to buy huskies).

We have a husky and to be honest she's the best dog we've ever had or been in contact with. If you plan on keeping it, just do as you would with any other dog. The only things to bear in mind are that they malt like hell (you could literally stuff a cushion twice a week with ours) and many people swear blind that you shouldn't let them off the lead for fear they will run off and not come back. I play the nurture Vs nature card on this one as we can genuinely walk miles without going near the lead with ours, but something to bear in mind as a relatively older pup.

ETA - She's beautiful!

I read about that not letting them off the lead(They return to you if they feel like it!),but as hesistant as we were we were over our local golf course the other night and she was great!Run right into my side every time i called her!:-)Never had a better dog interacting with children and other dogs, she's fantastic,so gentle!Only bother we're having is leaving her in the house, our shifts work out great as far as her never being left alone, but i just know if we left her she would destroy the other half of the house(cats seen to the other half!)

The blue merle colouring in dogs (eg border collies, rough collies, Danes and huskies) causes the colouring known as wall eye. This pup is unusual as it's more usual to have one blue eye and one brown.

I'm not aware that it's due to in breeding but it will have a smaller gene pool. Dogs don't normally have problems due to the eye colour but tests can be done to ensure no sign of eg PRA (progressive retinal atrophy, which coincidentally is hereditary in Collins but not just those with the blue merle colour)

Other than that they are fashionable dogs that people buy then quickly realise they can't cope with their needs. Growing numbers in rescue. They are not easy dogs and are not right for most homes.

Eta I doubt a breeder dumped her, unless her eyes put people off, though usually somebody will be taken by that kind of thing. Pups are rehomed from 6 weeks (normally 8 weeks) plenty of time for a new owner to have given up on her sadly. I assume she has been scanned and checked for an id chip.
