Specifically floor wipers.
Anyone else get this? Woke up today with an annoying ache in both my abs..which is okay but also the lower back. I don't think I am doing anything wrong, the gym staff were there. They usually tell people when their form is off.
I was holding a bar around the weight of 25kg if that makes a difference.

Is it not just the muscles being used on the back swing?

I did think this but it is like a muscle ache that I have not experienced before. Seems more severe than the usual.

Yeah, remember your core isn't just your visible abs. wink

As long as it's just tight or sore muscles I wouldn't worry. If it was a sharp pain or a different sort of ache I'd have it checked out.

I tend to get a really tight lower back if I do reverse crunches or heavy good mornings.

What are these, could you explain please?

My guess is poor form. Don't expect gym staff to correct it either.

Uh-huh. You mean windscreen wipers I think.

I think you've overstretched your internal obliques by rotating too far. The insertion is quite far round the lower back (thorocolumbar fascia). Try to keep your hips and lower back on the floor and technique strict. Use as light a bar as possible, it will work your core more. WWs are an odd exercise in that if you increase the weight on the bar the exercise itself becomes easier(up to a point).

Floor wipers! haha

most people get it. Lumbar support/point loading of lower back. leg raises and reverse crunch much better.

Any exercise where your legs are together and you move them side to side is a version of a windscreen wiper. Doing them with a barbell @10kg each side and a 5kg dumbbell between your feet is very awkward. This version is a bit easier but it's more fun:

I do those. Got bored of standard leg raises.

Floorwipers are kinda different.
