Dogs and Paracetamol
Discussion
Advice from a vet some time ago was to, clearly, go with dog specific medicines.
If no alternative, Paracetamol 10mg / kg of dog is fine. So, for our 28kg greyhound, half a 500mg tablet seems to take the edge off if she's suffering and we're away on holiday or something.
Just like humans, prolonged Paracetamol use isn't good. This is something I just do very occasionally (perhaps two or three times in the six years we've had her).
That vet also told us never ever ever Ibuprofen / Nurofen but I don't know why.
As with everything on PH, all of the above could be utter twaddle so best speak to a professional.
Cheers,
Eric

Dogs can have Paracetomol very successfully but only ever under vets guidance. It is safe but there is a very narrow safety margin, if you stick within these it is fine, if not it will cause problems.
Paracetomol can never be given to cats it will kill. Ibuprofen must never be given to dogs it will kill.
Don't give your dog paracetomol until speaking to a vet, some vets will say no do not give or will not px, others who have kept upto date with its uses in dogs will be able to prescribe a dose

I ask the question because my 11 year old lab seems to ha a sore front top leg joint and Ijust wanted to try giving her a one time half a 500mg paracetamol tablet to see if it helps.Paracetomol can never be given to cats it will kill. Ibuprofen must never be given to dogs it will kill.

If it does help I will take her to the vets to get some sort of pain relief for her.
