Hi there,

Perhaps this got missed in amongst all the reaction to the reelase of the 50th Anniversary Aventador, but Lamborghini are also releasing a commemorative Gallardo.

The question is WHY ?

Especially as they have given the anniversary model a reverse facelift (in other words in does not have the recent 'triangular' bumpers that were applied to the latest baby Lambo)

Now I am a massive Lamborghini fan, and special cars such as the Countach anniversary, Diablo SE30 and the 40th Anniversary Murcielago will go down in history but not sure about this one.

Thanks to GTSpirit for the pics

Spec taken from Lambocars

One of the last paragraphs in the official press release from Lamborghini talks about another special model, the Gallardo LP560-2 50° Anniversario ... which will be shown next to the yellow Aventador in Shanghai, the V10 counterpart is finished in Bianco Opalis ... a special shade of white that 'shimmers' as Lamborghini puts it.
The Gallardo LP560-2 50th Anniversary edition also receives the beautiful clear carbon fiber rear wing that is optionally available on the lightweight LP570-4 Superleggera and an extra bonus is the glass window engine cover so you can admire the V10 underneath, which in this case puts out 560 hp ... but only on the rear wheels instead of all four as on the LP560-4.
Talking about the wheels, on this special celebration model of the V10 the Scorpius wheels make their return, first used on the original Gallardo Superleggera back in 2007 they also featured on the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni special and the BiColore ... all limited edition models just like this 50th Anniversary edition.
So we are looking at a rear wheel drive V10 model that pumps out 10 hp more compared to the LP550-2 model, receives an impressive rear wing, transparent engine cover and rolls on classic, but beautiful looking multi spoke wheels ... and receives the by now well-known '50° Anniversario' Forged Composite badges.

Regards

Tim

Ooops.

Yep your right, it was tucked away in the thread you linked to. No wonder I missed it.

Nice to see some pics though.

Must have found a parts bin that had not been emptied.

Lamborghini: must try harder.

So basically they has some left over 570SL wings, a surplus of 560 front bumpers, some old wheels lying around from 2007 and some clear engine covers and VOILA!! A new 'limited' edition Gallardo is born..........

As "andrew" will tell you, old can look good. Though in his case, he is wrong smile

Regardless of how good it looks - what is special about it?

Ignoring the triggers broom aspect, that is my perfect Gallardo.

RWD, manual, 560hp, nice wing, nice front end (not the abortion they called a facelift), lovely wheels.

I would buy that over a 458, but then I'm a little odd like that.

hehe

Seriously though, I adore the manual LP560. Love the snick-snick of the gate, getting it right on the way into a corner, even getting it wrong. Just knowing that I'm controlling every aspect of that big V10 beastie. For me it's not about lap times or a-b speeds, it's about the experience and personally it has to be a manual to give that full feeling.

Though having done lots of miles in 458/12C/Aventadors, I can see the appeal of the paddle gearboxes. But they're not for me.

The manual box in the two Gallardos I owned (Spyder and SL) was a bit slow and clunky

It's probably a discussion for somewhere else but I've had mixed results.
I had an SMG M3 which I adored but strangely I always preferred to change up by flicking the stick rather than using the paddle. My 911's were manuals and just perfect, I loved the click of the box. When I went supercar though I just couldn't stand the manual boxes. I test drove a manual F430 and hated it, I know it's sacrilege to hate the gate but the paddles just seemed to bring the car to life for me, I don't think I would go back now.

I presume this is because I'm not much of a driver, no 'purist blood' in me. I need all the help I can get when sitting on 500 Italian horses at once!

Totally understandable - the boxes in the 458/12C are incredible, you'd absolutely love them.

But for me, the ultimate driving pleasure recently wasn't 200mph in an Aventador, nor blasting after a Macca P1 in a 458 Spider - it was a couple of hours driving the roads of Essex in a new Exige V6S. Stunning car, you feel 100% 'connected' to it.

I don't begrudge anyone getting the other paddle shifted cars, they truly are impressive, and for a daily driver I'd be more than happy to own an auto/DSG/whatever, but for driving pleasure I prefer to shift myself...
