I was looking at Crewe's team for tomorrow's game and this caught my eye:

England Under-19 keeper Ben Garrett will make his Crewe Alexandra debut against Walsall at Gresty Road.

If skipper Luke Murphy is fit to play following his groin injury, it means the Alex will field an entire team of Academy-produced players.

Just wondered if this had happened before in modern times. Whatever, a really proud achievement!

That's good to hear.

From what I know, the only top European side to come close in recent times would be Barcelona. I remember some stat last year about how they played a starting 11 of academy players but can't be 100% on the accuracy of the first part of the sentence you're currently reading.

I'd love to see a day when academy players regularly dominate teams playing in the Premier League. At the moment it's the polar opposite unfortunately.

yes Barca have fielded several teams this season that consisted only of players who started their career at La Maisa (Barcas Acadamy.)

Quite remarkable really. I'd be very surprised if Ajax haven't done the same seems as they too have a world renowned Acadamy.

Yeah, but apart from two globally-renowned clubs, which other lower league industrial town in the North West...

Well we're proud, anyway hehe

None id expect, and so you should be. That's a great achievement for the club.

Some have tried, a proportion of them have been fined for fielding under strength teams

I think this is a great indictment of the work done at Crewe over several years and it's a testament to the whole club. It would be great if this happens... and congrats on the cup win!!

Very kind - we play better at Wembley than anywhere else, of course!

Better surface to pass on, oh and the big boys have to run further to try to kick us wink

Great achievement OP. Doubt we will see it again from another team for a while.
