I hope not it's an institution but haven't they messed around with the transmission time recently ?

I'm not surprised no one is watching it. I used to stick it on while I was having my tea when I got in from uni, and try to play along. I was dreadful at the letters game. However, now it's on at some daft time like 14:40 or something, so every is at work while it's on. I doubt the dole mong thickos are all that excited about watching it when there are great alternatives for them like Dickie's Real Deals.

"iconic teatime show"

And thats the problem. Its NOT a teatime show anymore. As mentioned its times have been pushed here and there to make way for other programmes like Deal or No Deal.

Not sure if its the moving around thats killing it or if its being moved about to try and boost viewing.

Still I do like watching 8 out of 10 cats does countdown.biggrin

I'd give her employment.

The published viewing figures in the afternoon probably don't reflect the number of people who record it and watch later. IMO the typical viewer who this appeals to actually has a job.

Secondly, Nick Hewer is dreadful - absolutely zilch charisma. Good at making faces on The Apprentice but no game show host.

Thirdly, Rachel no longer wears those wow dresses and is dressed very bizarrely these days.

Your right, on all of the above.

I rarely remember to watch it nowadays as it's on over the school run time. Beforehand, I could get back in time to watch it and I've got out of that habit now.

They also started giving Susie Dent a small piece in each show on "origins of words" which were always as dull as dishwater, another turn-off.

That said, Nick Hewer along with Jeff Stelling were bizarre choices to take over after Des Lynam left, they've never really replaced the late Richard Whiteley.

She was on the one repeated early this morning a white number that gripped where it should what with that and the ability to flick between ch4 +1 and see 2 of the girls in a bikini it was very pleasant

The longer format of Countdown makes it seem a bit turgid now too - I rarely see it (not just because it's on too early) but the couple of times I've turned it on, it seems to have 4 parts each with a numbers game. It was quite snappy in the half hour format but dragged, not helped by Nick Hewer seeming quite uncomfortable in the role.

I would be happy if Rachel Riley were in every show on TV

Agree with this. He is really disappointing as a presenter. Always quite liked him in the apprentice as he seemed fairly witty and his facial expressions were amusing in that context but he just doesn't work on Countdown, his delivery is really flat and I hate his ending line "you be sure of it".

She already has. She's joining the Gadget Show team.

Streuth. They have quite the hiring policy, no complaints here though.

I'd probably start watching again along with a few million others if she started dressing like this again...

CH4 - Take note.

This could leave a gap in the market for my concept, Countdown Nude Edition biggrin

I will definitively watch that! Maybe if they wont go that far then perhaps a swimsuit edition.

Also agree about Nick Hewer. I think is a terrible, grumpy person for this and a very bad choice.

To be honest I think CH4 are putting all their cards on Deal or No Deal.

I'd probably watch it more if C4 removed the rest of the show and just had her standing about in a nice dress. Occasionally doing maths.

Sod the maths. Just standing will do.
