Would really appreciate some suggestions for a 2 day itinerary in the Lake District. I will be staying in Grasmere. Are there any shorter walks (1-2hr) that shouldn't be missed? I definitely would like to see Surprise View but from what I have read this is easily reached by car.

To add a bit more depth from this, ideally I am looking for a mix of short walks with spectacular views, some time spent by the lake and some nice walks in villages.

My thoughts so far are to visit Surprise View, Friars Crag, LLoughrigg Terrace and take a boot trip from Keswick. Is this all achievable in 2 days and anything else to add?

For a 1-2 hour walk, Lingmoor Fell (with Side Pike optional) is a cracking walk - it doesn't take long to get up but the views from the top are spectacular. It's at the bottom end of the Langdale Valley so about 15-20 minutes drive from Grasmere, if that.

I've not done it myself but I've earmarked High Rigg for a future easy walk - 1 1/2 hours I reckon, and should give some decent views down Thirlmere.

Thirlmere is a lovely place to take a wander around and is just down the road.

For a visit Wast Water is stunning and it's an excuse to do the Wrynose and Hardknott passes - well worth driving in their own right, as long as you aren't the sort to flap when faced with increasingly tight and steep hairpin bends.

It's a half hour drive from Grasmere, but in my opinion easily the best views from a short walk in the lakes are from Cat Bells:

The views out over Derwent Water are beautiful, even in lousy weather.

There's parking for about 5 or 6 cars at the bottom of Cat Bells, but it fills up really easily and I think the last time I went they were stopping people parking there. The above walk is from a nearby village and is quoted at 2 hours. You can also walk from Keswick, but that would be further.

You can get on the boat at the landing stage nearest the town in Keswick, go half way round the lake go up and down cat bells and or maiden moor if feeling keen, then pick up the boat again to take you back to the landing stage at Keswick later if you like.

Any suggestions of gastro style pubs near to Grasmere (including Keswick and Ambleside)?

Had a meal at The Wainwrights in Chapel Stile (Langdale Valley) and the food was lovely. Decent local cider too.
