Hi,
I have the sports exhaust at present on a N/A. Its a bit quiet for my liking, will a decat pipe missing out the first cat make much difference?

As far as I understand it there are three cats, two near the heads, and a third in line near the rear box.

One quite effective option is to remove the two near the heads because this apparently according to Larini makes the engine a fair bit noisier(too loud for trackdays unfortunately) aswell as improving the flow and power. The other option is to remove the third cat which I can vouch for in my car which is a 2011 S and when you press the sport button, that combined with the removed cat give a lovely sound under load aswell as remaining perfectly quiet for cruising. If I were 19 again and could get insurance, I`d probably remove all the cats and silencer and put a cherry bomb on the back!!

The 2 main cats are built into the manifolds, it's an expensive job to replace them. Most owners replace the 3rd, unnecessary cat with a pipe available from Lotus ASO which is a quick, cheap and effective job. £250 vs £2500 kinda idea and makes the car sound much better.

This^^^^

Remove the 3rd cat. Transforms the sound.

As far as I understand it if looking to decat the 3rd cat on an NA you also need to replace the downpipes and modify the undertray slightly. This is not necessary on S models though. I had mine done at Lotus Silverstone and cost around £700 ish all in. This along with the sports exhaust (blue tips) and radium CAI is perfection (in my oppinion) quiet-ish when cruising but loud and characterful when pushing on.

I too was put off by the cost of replacing the headers and decating this way. I also reckon it'd be Very loud and would it not cause EML issues? As lambda sensors are positioned fairly close to the manifolds.

^^^^^ not sure thats true I had a Larini de-cat pipe fitted and its a smaller pipe then before so why would undertray need modifying? Isnt it just a straight swap, one for the other.

Not true.

No issues with EML, nor is it very loud with just a decat. smile

I see... I am only basing this on what I was told by Silverstone. Perhaps it is only the case if decating with the Lotus supplied decat kit?? Either way it sounds awesome and recommend removing the third cat. This is the info about it on their site;
http://www.lotussilverstone.co.uk/offers/view/124/...

Can i ask what headers / primary decat manifolds you have and were there any complications fitting them? You mentioned no EML issues, do the Lambda sensors remain in roughly the same locations? Also does it make a noticable difference in performance/responsivness?

Cheers!

Silverstone have sold you the IPS/'S' set up (the downpipe connection has a different orientation), although not an issue it wasn't necessary as both Larini and 2bular have pipes that are a direct swap for the CAT and would have cost you ~£600 less.

Can you leave the decat pipe on for MOTs or do you have to refit the 3rd cat?

I am driving one of Lotus' own MY11 N/A Evoras with a decat at the moment. If it were mine and it didn't have the decat I'd do it. It makse it louder but not too loud at all, just more in keeping with the car. TBH it sounds better than my MY12 'S'.

I've got the 2Bular de-cat with the Lotus Sports Exhaust - it sounds great but isn't too loud.
No problems for MOT's either.

I brought the Evora in to work this morning for the first time and passed a couple of the guys from the office on the way in.
They were all raving on about how good it sounds, so it's not just me cool
