Well the car should be with me by tomorrow afternoon, quite excited
One bit I know needs replacing is the Distributor, does anyone have one I could purchase for an 83 280i/know where I could get one?
Had a look on ebay but don't want to order anything without being sure and figured you guys would be the best people to ask!

There you go, a brand new one from ebay
Or this one with a set of leads.

Cool..What one was it again??..Was it the white 280i??...As for the dizzy there were different fitment's..Some had motorcraft..(Blue cap)..And some had bosch..(Brown cap)..Although i think i had one and then fitted another..Not sure what difference there is??..If there is no difference then i think i still have my old motorcraft one..I believe it works ok as i changed it as part of an elimination process as you do..The fault wasnt the dizzy..I will have a look in a bit but it might have to wait until tomorrow if it's not in my indoor part's bin...One bit I know needs replacing is the Distributor, does anyone have one I could purchase for an 83 280i/know where I could get one?

Have you tried running it yet?
Yeah to no avail, looks like it's the fuel system (thankyou for the advice ziga) so once the new bits arrive on tuesday along with the new distributor we're gonna have another shot.@Ziga: thanks mate, I think it actually arrived today but there was no one in the house so I'm gonna have to wait till monday to collect it from the post office depot lol

Chassis doesn't seem too bad.
The interior is liveable at the moment but I'll definitely need to get the entire thing redone for me to be comfortable with it, for example the leather is all cracked and some of the carpet and wood is just looking a bit tatty.
The cloth section of the roof unfortunately has seen better days so that'll need replacing aswell.

Mmmm...Interiors....Well it would be nice to see some pictures of everything that needs attention..This forum thrives on piccies and it's also a very useful tool of explaination or even appreciation...But in general you need to establish which is leather and which is vinyl..Some dash coverings were leather and some vinyl..This also applied to seat's..Arm rest's..Centre console's door caps and rear trim..Leather can be cleaned ..Nourished to eliminate scratches and crack's and then conditioned to improve texture and protect from dirt..If the have faded then either a gliptone or dyna-mix leather colourant or to recollonise around 50 - 60 sob's for a pair of seat's..vinyl can be cleaned and nourished with specific product's..Sometimes vinyl will crack as it has crystalised due to prolonged UV exposure..Normally on top dashes and centre console's..You can buy a ready made hood from certain car trimmer's and fit yourself for around 300 knicker's or pay someone which is going to cost from 500 sobber's upward's..But there is no hurry ..get your priorities right from the beginning..i;e Make sure the engine, Ignition and electrical systems are all as they should be..The chassis will need a good look over but most 280's leak from the rocker covers anyway and that normnally coats most of the chassis..If you intend keeping the car and fixing it up then prioritise..i:e
1. Engine
2. Drivetrain
3. Chassis
4. Interior
5. Bodywork
That way you will have a runner even if it's a little tatty..You can enjoy it by using it while you are fixing it up..
On another note though..PLEASE do not try starting it until you have changed the bulkhead fuel filter and checked the condition of fuel of what comes out of the metering head side of the old one..(Tip a little into a jar and have a look..lid on and no smoking)..If it's full of nasties then it will contaminate the rest of the system...It can be a bit of a nightmare leading to expensive fixes..But if you can drive it most of the time then cost goes out the window cos you will be smiling too much...cheers...Ziga

Is this the voice of experience Ziga? (ie made that screw up in the past?)I must admit to not having a lot of experience with the cologne engine yet, or fuel injection even as most of the cars I have messed about with in the past had carbs.
I am really looking forwards to getting my wedge soon and finding out all about the little idiosyncrasies.
